we took our boys to an amusement park and I came home with a pocket full of seeds--- peach hibisus, some weird and wonderful grass with white dots all over it, and coleus(SP?) and some I couldnt even guess what they were. I also relocate seed from the zoo---*ok ok I stole it..* these are a great source of seed. My DH used to fuss, now he just walks away and plays like he doesnt know me....lol---but when he notices a plant he likes---and I mention I relocated its seed, he smiles and shakes his head...
do yall do this too?

My husband or son neither one want to walk with me in any garden section...They will usually just meander off.......got my eye on a prime specimen right now, they say they don't have seeds...well I saw some seeds...should be ready some time this week too.....soooooo...... :o)
Those you "swipe" always grow so much better than the ones people freely give you.
Now I know I'm in good company. I usually carry white envelopes and a marker in my large purse so that I can write down names etc. Some of my plant markers read "strange pod from zoo May 07 03" -- I don't have a DH, but my HD (hole digger) offers to hold my things and even takes pictures of the plants to help with identification.
I'm gonna make sure my Hubby and Son read this thread........lol :p

Ya, Rooty, tell us..............were you able to swipe it with no-one the wiser???? Nochalantly walk past the plant, bend over, and say, "oops....look at this, somebody must have broken a branch off.........I'll take it and "dispose" of it for you............." LOLOL
I spotted some lovely coleus that needs "tidying up" -- I plan to "work for the city" today or tomorrow.
Nope Never got one,could not get it to root,they had them everywhere at this show,next time I will wear my big pocket pants,bring some root tone,potting soil,small waterer,mister,grow lamp,well maybe not the lamp,LOL!
Ha, funny! I had a couple cuttings of Harry Lauders walking stick. Never could get those suckers to root, tried them all different ways. Guess I didn't need one anyways.
Im going to make a plant relocation badge to flash----- :) and I do here by deputize you all as official officers of the department of botanical relocation and development.

I do it too, at garden centers if there's an employee nearby I will ask for permission to take a cutting , so far I've never been told no.
I have never taken from the parks before, but that is a very good idea. What i do is go to the nurseries and if i see a leaf especially from succulents and cactus. i just slip it in my purse and look for more the only one i have success with are the succulent. they are easier to root,and easier to take.
LOL, we went to 6 flags the other day, and I was digging all through their Dinner Plate Hibiscus looking for seed pods, even had my family looking, alas, none were found.
Remembering when I was a little tyke,out and about with mom,how she was always 'finding' broken off leaves from african violets and coleus(sp?) which just happened to be her favs.SOOO, my behavior is NOT my fault!! It's in the genes,sometimes in 'my' jeans. LOL...SB

My hubby thinks I'm crazy. Every spring we go riding, and I'm always yelling STOP THE CAR!!! Something that looks like a weed to some is a lovely little flower to me. Thanks for starting this thread
We are deadheading their plants for them! I think that is helping them help us!!!!
parks....we pay for parks, and as good taxpayers and citizens we can help clean the parks too. plus we paid for that plant, and well i just want my part of it . ;)

My vacation In Arkansas this week is the first time I have ever swiped cuttings. I think they are Hibiscus of some type. They had 3 different colors and also some plum tree cutting and seeds from the ground below it.
