We took out the wall between the kitchen and the LR a couple of years after we bought our house. Now when you walk in the front door, you can see straight through the kitchen and out the back door (Eight foot sliding glass door). So this year I planted this where I could enjoy it without having to go outside. LOL It looks like the flowers will be white still, but maybe they'll change?? So, how soon do I need to put pollen on these?? Obviously they are not quite open.
View from my kitchen door :)
You should be able to see the stigma now and put pollen on it. Which one are you going to use? something pink?
Use something pink since it already has pink in it's background. You should be able to pollinate it now. Question...why are there no leaves in that area above the main Y? Will look pretty when it opens.
If the leaves yellow or get ugly with bug holes, I take them off. Does it look bad?? Susie, some nice lady sent me EP and Butterfly pollen. :) I have the three flowers now, but tons more little buds are on the other branches.
Well she's out there smoking a cig now. LOL I had to pull the flowers open, so I assume she was untouched. ;) Those flowers are sure bright yellow up close, but the very edge is peachy. I know, they'll still be white. ha ha ha Gee, don't I look wonderful in my 'just out of bed' look, despite the fact I have been up for several hours. Hey, if I actually get seed pods, will I need to name my big momma plant or just use some code?
So I missed what one this is? was it on the other thread and you expect me to remember??? LOL Those look so big. A great sight for you Chele when doing the dishes.
Check Brugie's Pristine posting or my About Time posting. ;) The flowers were very large last year and smelled wonderful!
Get that paint brush out and start pollinating woman. Looks to me like they are going to have some color, especially looking at the tendrils. Sure hope so. Can't wait for more pictures.
If you are going to send the seeds out or send cuttings of your plant, it will have to be named or as you said, coded. Some people use their initials, but I would name it if it is going to become one for trade. Then no one else could put a name on it and have a zillion names on the same brug. Be sure to tell people that it is a Kyle Courtney hybrid. It would be a White Jean Pasko X Ecuador Pink cross unless you name it. Then the seed pod would be NAME X Pollen Donor. Bet you knew all of that though. It's my fingers doing the talking. LOL!! I'm heading outside again. Beautiful, but dry day here AGAIN!! Michele, you are looking good!!
Looking good Seed!!!Is that a Lobelia towering next to it?
Hey Root! Thanks! The red flowers are Penstemon "Huskers Red". It has been blooming forever!
After seeing Inca Moon, I had to go measure. :) The blooms on this are 15 inches long and 7 across. Wouldn't you know I have to be at work at 12 tonight and will miss the heavenly scent. booo hoo
Here it is now, closer.
Maybe they will still smell good when you get home in the morning.
This plant shares many qualities with Inca Moon..its relative.Inca Moon is heat and wind resistant as well as very bug resistant..keep track of this plant as well to see what its qualities are.I had another seedling from this cross bloom a short time ago..very big flower and citrus in fragrance.Nice clear smell. No name for it as of yet. OH! and the cross White Jean Pasko X EP should now read as "Clare Mills" X EP white jean Pasko is now called Clare Mills.
what a wonderful view from your window---I would never get anything done in another room. cheryl
Shoot, I forgot about the name change. Sorry. Michele, am I seeing a hint of pink now? Looks like it on my monitor. Looking great.
Well she stayed white. Craziest thing. Guess the pink is in there and hiding. :) I will have to come up with a name. The scent is to die for and even with only three flowers, I can smell it from twenty feet. The flowers did end up getting 8 1/2 inches across. I did end up crossing the flowers with EP and Butterfly. Let's see how it goes. I have a bunch more buds coming on and more pollen. ;)
Thanks for the name and cross info Kyle and Shirley!
Sure does look pretty. If it grows anything like mine did, it will bloom like crazy. Isn't the smell great on these brugs?
It's so pretty!
It sure is a bright spot in your garden Chele. I love it!
Thanks Kell! Hey, I thought of questions. My flowers are starting to melt away and get all yucky. How long will it take to know if my pollination was successful? How long to see pods if it was?
That Penstamon knocks me out every time I see it!
Very quickly! Sometimes the entire bloom drops clean with pedicle attached though I often have all fall but the pedicle. It just sits there turning yellow and then drops.
The pod grows from the pedicle. Sometimes the calyx stays on and you can feel the pod swelling under it. Here is a growing pod pushing the old flower off the new pod.
So within a vey short period after the flower dies, you should know!
oh, oh! get that brug mobile ready Kell LOL! i can already see how packed it will be in there. hope u got tons of those McDonald salad cups... hehehehe.
Chele, I've been moving my pot all over just so that I could see it from my kitchen, and the way it's set up here, I can now see it from my living room, too!
Chele, your garden display is gorgeous!! And that brug is taller than you?! I'm patient, yes, I am, yes I am!! LOL
Thanks Kell. I imagine the flowers will fall off tomorrow or the next day. They are looking pretty rough. Last year the calyx stayed after the flower fell off.
It's pretty tall Gracie. I am about 5'5" and it is in the ground. Believe it or not, it was about a 12 inch tall seedling around March of last year. :) The first year I planted it right next to the deck and that was nice for smelling it and would have been nice for pollenating. LOL BUT, I can see it from inside now. Hmmmmm....
Well, like I thought, the calyx does stay on these. The last flower fell off yesterday and all the stamens are still hanging there. I keep looking up into the calyx and all I see is a green pointy thing with a fatter part connecting it to the stem. Shouldn't they be swelling by now if it was successful??
It's still early to tell. If they didn't take the whole thing will fall off in a week or two with the stem and all. Sometimes it seems they take forever to start getting fat.
Feel it thru the calyx. GENTLY! You can feel it if it took before you see it, it gets bigger and hard.
Beautiful Chele.
Kell, you are getting me all excited! LOL I can see all the way up inside. I tried feeling it too. Can't tell nuthin'! So, like I waited for the dang flowers, I will impatiently wait to see if they get big and hard or just plumb fall off! I do see at least six more 2" buds and more smaller ones. :)
Thank you Donna! Thus far it is the only one that likes me enough to bloom! LOL
Woe is me! Today she has six flowers and twice as many three inch buds behind, just waiting to pop open. Here I sit camera-less and can't even make you all be tortured with my pics! LOL I did attempt to pollinate AGAIN. If it fails this time, I will give up and just stick to making humans! giggle
LOL Chele. Never give up. Just wait untill it cools down some and try again.
Every time it cools down I end up pregnant! LOL Good thing I am already so I have more time for the brugs. ;)
