I guess it is intense suckering. You would think it was grafted.

On HG.

And I thought my HG trunk was ugly!!I thought it was a piece of Coralreef! That is amazing!

Kell,
What are you do to that HG?

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Shucks, hurt my tender feelings!

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

Looks like your fertilizer isn't going all the way up!

Hamilton, Canada

Kell,
Could you please post a picture of the plant showing what the upper leaves look like on HG. I have another ID problem. Alyssa marked her gourds with my brug tags!!! I guess I should have tied the tags on the plant stalks. I have 2 plants that I don't know which is which and one is HG. Thanks Kell I would appreciate it.

PS. Today we sat down and made tags for her own plants. I must add that she loves to sit at the computer with me and look at the brug pictures. She's definitely the "PINK" type.
She's a budding Garden Princess for sure.

Brugvalley, Germany(Zone 7b)

Not amazing, many brugs show this from time to time, even Rothkirch.

Sorry, for such short words. Am busy.

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

Very strange! Looks like old hen & chickens. See if YOU can make the durn thing bloom.

Norwalk, IA(Zone 5b)

One of mine did this too this year!

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I had an arborea seedling that did the same thing. Really looks strange. I planted it in the flower bed and I think it is lost in there now. I'll have to go look and see what it is doing.

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

Ugh nasty looking. I haven't seen this yet on any of my brugs.

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

The only time I have seen something like that-a datura pod fell off in one piece and I think every seed inside sprouted. It looked like a big green brain. LOL

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

If it was anything other then HG,I'd probably wrap it in moss just to see what it would do.

city?? lol sticks, AR(Zone 7a)

you know it has me wondering?? I have heard of ppl using willow water to encourage rooting,---and I have read that some brugs are harder than others to root.----please bare with me lol---I wonder if you took some of those suckers, scraped them off---smushed them with a hammer and added them to water, would it be of more benefit to encourage rooting?---I would think that chemically, hormonally??? it might be of help--and besides---from what i understand about HG *which isnt much* it might as well do something useful while you wait for blooms---n wait n wait n wait... lolol

Kell,
I'm sorry....I didn't mean to hurt your feeling but that is one ugly Brug. LOL

city?? lol sticks, AR(Zone 7a)

kell please dont hit me---lol but I could almsot swear that was bubbling and pulsating (SP?) lololololol

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

my KBS is doing this too.

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Kell, I told you there were aliens out there! Now look what they've gone and done to your brug.
Glory I agree, that's one ugly brug stem!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Crush me with a spoon, stab with a knife and pierce me with a fork! With friends like you guys who needs the alien in the palm tree to get me??? LOL

Here Joydie, the rest is kind of ugly also.................

Kell,
Thanks I really appreciate the pic. Will tie the labels on today.

PS. The people next door had a tumbled paver driveway put in and one of the guys who did the work chopped off lots of Alyssa's vines on my property. They look terrible now. The woman who lives there came last night and appologized to Alyssa and Alyssa started to wail and cry. Then she told the neighbour she has to have a funeral for her plants and ran into the house wailing and crying.

I got up early this morning before she woke up and pulled out the vines that only had stumps and tossed them in the compost bin. I moved some pots of brugs over there to fill in the empty spots. I put Alyssa's name on tags and added them to the brugs. I hope this makes her happy again.

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Awww Joydie, that stinks! Maybe your little suprise will cheer her up.
Kell, every time I look at this, the Kermit song "It ain't easy bein' green" comes to mind. LOL

Jones Creek, TX(Zone 9a)

What did yall say that was????? Does that happen to Daturas too????

Hamilton, Canada

Badseed,
She wasn't impressed. She told me she can't "eat the flowers" and then asked for more seeds to plant. She's only 4 and she's been planting seeds ever since she was 2 years old.

Kell,
Didn't mean to highjack your posting.

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Maybe you could tape some candy to the branches??

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

LOL Chele! Your kids must love you!

Hamilton, Canada

Chele,
Sounds like a good idea. I'll buy those little lolipops that are wrapped in plastic and attach them to the branches.
I tell you Alyssa can be a real drama queen when she wants to. This morning I had to put tights underneath her underpanties and undershirt so she could "practise" ballet. I know her mom is going to shoot me when she comes to pick her up. Good luck to her trying to get her to put her clothes on. I think when all the hoopla starts I go into the garden and pull weeds...teehee.

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Well if you get bored, I have five more drama queens here that you can come amuse. I'd be thrilled for relative to humor mine. LOL

Matthews, MO(Zone 6b)

It does look like hen and chicks!

Gulfport, MS(Zone 8a)

Really looks unusual to me; does is mean the plant is damaged? Or just ugly? Sorta reminds me of a kind of gall that gets on branches sometimes.

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

I have that on my L'Amour......

Didn't Tonny have it on a culubra or something last year?

Hattiesburg, MS(Zone 8a)

Kell, occasionally this happens to some of my plants. I remove it and in time the plant returns to normal. It usually happens to the tip of the stems where the leaves should be.

Hamilton, Canada

Kell,
I noticed today I have this on Liz's sanguinea (which has just Y'd by the way). I hope I get to see flowers this year. The poor thing got hit by frost last year and died back to the roots. It regrew over the winter while indoors.

Chele,
Well we picked all the gourds instead of the candy idea. She sat on the lawn and played "family" with them and when she was finished I put them in a basket on the front porch. I pulled out the rest of the vines as the vines were starting to detract the look of the brugs and other flowers. Besides my cannas needed the sunlight and the vines were overshadowing them and my coleus.
