I got 3 nice iochroma from Kartuz last month. Little plants, about 6 inches tall, but 2 of them had flowers!!! Now, what I need to know, is the care for those plants basically the same as I do for the brugs? Can you take cuttings of iochroma like you do brugs too? Those purple and red flowers are so cute. The 3rd one hasn't bloomed yet, so I don't remember what color I had ordered, i ordered them in April and got them in July. I had totally forgotten that I had ordered them. Nice surprise. :>)
Iochroma care
Basically the same care as a brug, but they don't root as easily, at least for me. The blue ones didn't bloom well for me, but the red one that Kell sent me bloomed like crazy. They can get quite large in one season.
I found the care to be fairly similar, also, except mine don't like as much water as brugs. I lost one in the ground to too much water, a problem I haven't had with the brugs. I took 6 green tip cuttings, and 3 rooted. I am trying now with hardwood, since it looked to me that Kartuz rooted his from hardwood cuttings, but don't know how well they are going to do, I'll keep you posted.
oh wow ---I have never seen one of those before---can you winter it over in a dormant state like you do brugs inside?? and ---*sighh* there is no end to my groveling---could someone--anyone send me some seed to try--I read you can start it from seed. that is just too cool.......cheryl
Here I go again. Where can I get one. Anybody got seeds or cuttings? That is amazing.
Thanks. I'll see what I can do to keep them alive. They're gonna have to grow some to get as big as some of my brugs, tho. Almost a foot tall now, I'd say.
ihughes have you checked out kells purple thing in her cat pic? take a look. cheryl
I am not sure about overwintering, as I have all my brugs in the ground and plan to put my iochroma in the ground, too. Already have one there, the fuchsioides. I have 7 different varieties, some are already 3 feet tall or so. They aren't nearly as upright as brugs, tend to be kinda sprawling in their growth habit. I have never seen any seed pods on any of mine.
oh, I need one of these! Kartuz, huh? I'm on my way to go check it out!
