Just wanting to get my mind relaxed before bed,it will be an early one.
I started a new job today, after being off for an extended period, felt very good to get back in the swing of work,I am a ditch digger, say that because pretty much it is the job,I am laying underground pipe for an electric company, good job, great people!I'm the old dog there so I will have to try to keep up with the kids.
I will be running a backhoe/trencher and placing pipe for powerlines, and at times trenching an standing lightpoles.
First jobs took us to the higherup housing, brandnew homes in the best area.
after lunch we went to the middle of where the tornado hit,a good 400+ acre area of homes gone!the lady we were working for was in her basement when it hit,all that was left was a half bath on the first floor, the valley behind her was where all the houses landed,it had to be cleaned with very heavy equiptment, and all that is there is clay now, what must have been a nice wooded valley.
What amazed me was the way it looked like a war zone still, trees snapped off, power poles snapped, toys, VCRs,shoes, fishing poles, all the things we take as being everyday items, tossed, scattered, crushed into the ground by the process of rebuilding.
A tape of Cinderella, sitting next to a canna coming up from seed that was blown from afar.
Thanks,thats off my chest.
Root.

Good luck with the new job. Hope everything works out well for you.

Doc,
You should have seen Homestead FL after hurricane Andrew I can not even describe what it looked like...
Congratulations on the new job and I'm sure you and your team will have things back in order quickly!

Thanks! It brought a tear to my eye to see this lady, she was so happy getting power and they were putting up gutters on her new home,it was just a shock to drive past driveway after driveway, where there was only a gas meter or pipe sticking out of the ground.
Monica is out of town for her second week with Sarah,so it is nice to be able to come home and get things off my mind with my family here, just makes it hard to look at my plants and yard, after seeing some who have nothing.

Wow, Root
You're making me teary eyed. Really hits the heart when you see it first hand.
Thanks for sharing and congrats on the job.

root, your words are so true. Living here where I am, you are at the mercy of Hurricanes. I too, have seen the power and destruction of nature. It is hard to see. We take so many things for granted. Our town was also hit by Andrew, about 10 miles from me, things were flattened. I was lucky, had small damages compared to most. However, when you come home to a home still standing, you almost feel guilty. I am glad yall were able to restore power to those in need. Good luck on your new job. It is nice to be a blessing to others-lucky you..you get to drive a backhoe!!Sleep well.

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

Lisa my friend,I will,Thank you and God Bless!

Lincoln City, OR(Zone 9a)

Root, I am so glad to know that you will be returning power and really when you think of it some shred of hope to these poor people who have lost almost everything. It sure must be hard to go home and see all that you still have and go back there and see how little they have. A storm, fire, or any disaster is not a good event and I know that it hits many hard sometimes. Hopeful that most had insurance that will cover most or all of their losses.

Castor beans plants ROCK! I was just at a lady's home that has tons of plants around her extensive gardens in three or four colors. Neat plants. Mine are still small compared to hers but she planted hers indoors and transplanted them. Thanks for the seeds you sent.

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

Your Welcome Hon!Hope yours perk up!They are a great plant, under rated in my mind,I love all the colors!
I'm enjoying my job,I have turned into a REAL redneck, spending the day with my head down in a trench sure warms the backside!I will be hanging streetlights today.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Glad things are going well with the new job. I'm sure you are pooped by the time you get home, water, eat, etc. Do you have time to enjoy all the hard work you did this spring?

Lincoln City, OR(Zone 9a)

Brugie, knowing root I think he will make the time for the enjoyment! I really don't think he will let his plants realize for too many minutes that he isn't there all day. He is a good plant Daddy. :>)

Gulfport, MS(Zone 8a)

Rootdoctor, I know how you feel when you see that kind of thing; Hurricane Camille hit here and I just could not believe what I saw the morning after the hurricane. It really is heartbreaking. Homestead, Fla. was really wiped out from Andrew; looked like Camille was there. Lots of good luck on your new job!
