I'm sure that there is a thread here somewhere that explains the reason for this, but here goes nothing.
My Mother has a brug(with no name) and its in a fairly large pot. Its leaves are turning yellow and dropping off of it. Other leaves have tons of small holes in them.
Now being that I am no expert here with brugs, all I knew to tell her was to feed it. She doesn't have any miricle-gro so what can she use??
She's been sick and in and out of the hospital but yet she still wants to tend to her brug. What can I tell her??
Thank you in advance for any help.
Question.
Any fertilizer will do until she can get Miracle Grow or another suitable fertilizer, but it sounds a bit like the plant might have spider mites. Something she should check for and then that is a whole other problem to work on.
She is getting on up there in age and her eyesight isn't as great as it use to be, so finding those little buggers might have to wait til someone else can help her look for them.
Thanks for the help.
She could apply epsom salts as a foliar feed to help green up the leaves. She probably has some around the house.
O my goodness! She told me all she had was "salts" and I told her I wasn't real sure about it. I'll call her in the a/m and tell her to give it a dose and water it in.
Thanks!
Have her spay some on the leaves... it will absorb it faster. Spraying the leaves will also help combat spider mites... if she has them.
And if she does have spidermites I think that rose food with the systemic insecticide (Bayer Advance something in blue plastic containers)is easier to use for an older person for you just apply it to the soil and water it in. Make sure she does not use too much of it. Maybe a neighbor can pick her up sme.
mollybee, if she has spider mites it should be easy to tell even if her eyesight isn't too good as they leave a sort of web (at least mine did.....lol)
are they in the house or outside? a good spraying with the hose a couple of days should take care of them if they're outside as they like dry conditions
please correct me if I'm wrong
I've had some success with spraying with a hose, but they always come back. Been lucky this year....no spider mites yet and our area is bone dry. The stuff Kell is talking about will take a little time to work, so don't expect overnight success.
I hope it isnt spider mites, its been too hot and dry here this summer and before I knew it, I had a massive infection of mites. Still trying to get rid of them. They denuded several of my plants, but new growth has started. What a nightmare this has been. I have sprayed, used systemic, sprayed with water and STILL see movement. Those buggers are tenacious, to be sure. But then, so am I..LOL
Thanks ya'll!
I told her and she is going to give them a dose of "salts" and see if that helps. We have had a very wet summer, so I am doubting it is mites. Going by what you all are saying about the dryness and all. Hopefully I will be able to get up there this weekend and check them out for her.
Thanks again!
