Y ing

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

After the initial Y is there anything that can be done
to encourage more? I have one brug, 4 years old, that
has the first Y at 24" but is reluctant to Y again.
Would trimming in the spring help? If so, how much and
to where? Thanks for your help!

Gee Lilypon, I do not know. I would fertilize it more and move it to a bigger pot. I have noticed the brugs that have stopped growing are in too small a pot. As soon as I move them up they take off. I kept some in 4 inch pots for a year ands they stayed tiny and then I finally put them in a 5 gallon and they grew so fast.

I would also foliar feed where you want it to grow frequently. Good luck. Let us know how you do.

Thanks Kell-I do have the older ones in a five gallon
pot, I will try the foliar feeding. Is it possible that
they were taken above the Y originally? Would that cause
such a huge spread between Y's?

My cuttings from above the Y grew like squat bushes with lots of Ys, little space between them. I am sure it will take off as soon as things are to its liking.

Kell, mine did the same thing. I had quite a few cuttings that I got in the spring that had been taken above the original plants Y. When I planted them in the ground they stayed kind of squatty but Y'd all over the place. A few of them did end up with some height to them but not much.
I also feed with MG every other day religiously.

I think I will give up on the original plant and just
take cuttings above the Y. From what others have
posted above I should get many more blooms and alot
earlier. Thank you for your suggestions Kell and
catsmeow!!
