I have been looking at past postings of Rothkirch and
was wondering, if you are lucky enough to get the real
thing, is it a good brug to grow if you aren't into
hybridizing? Is it difficult to get a bloom? Does it
grow into a huge one that wouldn't be good for container
growing? Any info. would be very appreciated.
Rothkirch
No one here in US has had RK long enough to find out the answers to your questons.
Thanks Hibiscus-I was wondering if I had missed something
in the posts! Would Monika know?
Yes, she has had it for a few years, I think. She pollinates with it.
Monika still has the true Rothkirch and me too.( My one is from Monika )
Kindest Regards
Ludger
Please tell me about it Ludger!
I will. In wintertime:-)
The Story is known here. Donīt have time to translate it all right now:-)
There is only one Rothkirch...
Looking forward to hearing it from you!
Thanks Ludger!
MOST WELCOME!!!
Ludger is the Raefella a hybrid of the Rothkirch? I read it somewhere or was told that. I have one I got in trade. I am waiting for the pods to bloom hopefully in a week or two. Can you or anyone give me some information on it.
RK in the states has done very well for me.
Blooms nicely. Pollenates well.
Mine is growing to drooping formation now.
I like it fine (o:
Is it an exceptionally large brug Abutilon? Would it
be happy in a container?
cool, I wonder who imported Raefella??
Abutilon how large are your containers?
My Rothkirch is doing great and it's in a pot.
I don't actually know the pot size.
But big enough for good growing to mature.
The Raefella cutting came from a person in Fla. I was so disappointed when I got it. It was as thin as a twig and about 3 inches long. I was surprized it survived. It appears to be a vigorous grower in the rooting pot and now in the ground. It Y'd very fast and has had many y's but was slow to put on blooms. I hope it is truly a Raefella. The Goldens Kornetts appears to be named correctly and I got it from the same person. I guess I will know in a week or 2. I made a few cuttings from a low hanging branch and it is the fastest I have had to show new growth when rooting.
Thanks for the info. Abutilon and Calalily - I have
limited space for overwintering Brugs so am researching
which ones I should be on the lookout for!!
I hope it is too Donna and that you have some great pollen to put on it.
lilypon, there are tons of BEAUTIFUL brugs, that are easier and less expensive,if you're not looking for it to use for breeding then I wouldn't spend the money for it.......
And fall is coming, when everyone is cutting up their plants.........
So it is a more difficult Brug? I understood it
was hard to get it's cuttings rooted but am unsure
how touchy the plant itself is.
Donna, I can't wait for pictures! I am sure you can trade that Rafaella for a piece of Rothkirch and then cross it back to it.
Well Abutilon, if it is starting to droop it sounds like it is the real one! LOL. I am glad for I have one also.
Roflol,
you guys are playing with brugnames - īs amazing.
Give a Frosty Pink to me and Iīll give a "R" back to you.
Why donīt you like to go hybridizing way?
What?
Yes, Lilypon. Too bad you are in SK ..another county from me in the US!
Kell, my first cuttings are just to root. I was assured easy enough to get going (o:
Ludger, if you are asking me, I am still trying to
figure how to make it Y more-if that is possible.
Just this year I learned about Epsom salts so I
don't think I am ready to pollinate. I would have
to build a greenhouse first to have a hope of
growing these beauties from seed.
I would love to trade a Frosty for your Rothkirch
but I think you have gone way beyond it ;~)!
P.S. if there are any tips to pruning could you please
go to my post on Ying that has probably moved onto the
next page by now!
Abuliton
You are right-unless people are good at making a
brug look like a dusty old book trading with you
would be difficult-but I would love to, if I could.
Alice, so you are saying the RK roots easily? LOL! I sure hope so! I have tons of little side growths. I also have a list of friends that need them ...LOL!!
An if any of you send me back a Frosty instead of postage the Queen of Frosty Pinks will come and get you in the night!
OK, I will send Isabella instead.
I've got a lot of pink, peach brugs, can send your way. They are "oldies, but goodies".
Raffaela has no Rothkirch influence at all. Its a Multihybrid but looks like a suaveolens. Raffaela does not belong to the R-family but its out of the same cross as Adora.
Monika, Could you post a picture of Raffaela...Please.
Yes please do Monika and thanks for the spelling correction. I have an Adora that is very beautiful but it is not as hardy in growth as this plant. It maybe that they are planted on different sides of the yard, get different amounts of sun, and are in different types of soil wettness. Rafaella gets less direct sun and is in moister soil.
