pot size confusion
Debi, if you are planning on that being the last size for your brug and you aren't putting it, pot and all, in the ground, I'd go with a BIG pot. The bigger the better. The 5 gallon size requires too much watering. During our hot spell, I was watering 3-4 times a day. Even my largest pots dried out, but the 5 gallon size were a real headache.
brugi you have mail
I agree Brugie, Dabi think big! I have the biggest black grower pots from HD and they are not big enough! They put out so many roots, th e5 gallon get filled very fast.
The five gallon pots turn over too easy too unless you bury the pot at least half way in the garden.
debi_z, I believe that the pots are not quite as large as their names imply. A five gallon might be just over 4 gallons in capacity. (sort of like 2 x 4's) John
Yeah, my 20 gallon ones were actually 17 gallons. They even have something that garden centers can buy called a "cheater gallon" which is only three quarts. When I ordered my pots I had to remember to say "true gallon size" "true five gallon size" etc, or I would get the "cheater" pots.
I notice at the nurseries that they are calling glorified 4 inch potted annuals a gallon! and charging $3.99 to $4.99 for them when they should be for 87 cents.
Now that is really stretching it isn't it Kell? They sell 4inch pots here and call them quarts, but a gallon is stretching it a bit much don't you think?
They call them quarts and charge gallon prices. 2 fudges! YES! Way too much Susie
thanks everyone, guess those really big pots i already have will do the trick.
