Copper pipe to keep algae away?

Lewiston, ID(Zone 5b)

I was recently asked if the following would help keep the algae out of my pond: Moss is kept off roofs with copper pipe or wire placed at the top, so would copper wire or pipe placed at the top of a waterfall keep the algae out of the pool and not harm the fish? Anybody know the answer?

Linden, using copper in a pond can kill your fish.It changes as times goes on emitting a deadly "i dont remember what, something to do with oxidation, or sumpin." That's why you shouldnt put pennies in fountains with fishies, etc. So that would be a bad idea. :(.

also copper in deadly to invertabrates---they use it as treatment for parasites on fish, but it kills the good stuff too like snails. you could have a huge overload of dead stuff, then a huge growth of algea because of all the available nurishment.

yup, copper will kill fish, snails and etc like frogs. It will make copper sulfate which is pretty toxic. It can even kill some species of plants.

I don't know about fish ponds and copper except what I read above, but I had one of those tabletop recirculating fountains in my bedroom. It always got algae and someone recommended putting copper pennies in the water. Didn't help.
