Amaranthus tricolor

Mount Angel, OR(Zone 8a)

This early summer I participated in one of Flowox's RRs and I picked out this seed, amaranthus tricolor. They germinated wonderfully and I have transplanted them in two various places in my garden. They are growing so well. I was just curious whose seed I got or who has had experience with this. Actually it reminds me a little of pigweed except for the pretty colors. It seems the colors are brighter if it is right out in full sun.

I see you've not gotten a reply :(
I don't think it came from me so it must have been someone on the list that put it in between me and you :)

If I am not mistaken pigweed/hogweed is a wild form of Amaranthus. My A. cruentus self seeded in the same area for awhile then I accidentally let some of the hogweeds go thinking they were green ones. I am still pulling them out. Amaranthus are gorgeous and easy plants. Tricolor is one of the most attractive. I enjoyed cruentus because the plant and flowers are all red.
