I just realized I haven't post a introductory "HI"
in this forum...I've been growing brugs for four years
but really knew nothing about them. Saw Liz's and
CristinaH businesses at Watchdog and found out that there
was more than Jamaica Yellow and Frosty Pink out there.
I am looking forward to learning and drooling over all
the new varieties! I've got alot to learn and will be
spending many a cold winter night in the North...North..
Northwest-esp. when it hits the -40F or C (doesn't matter
which when those temps come) warming my soul with all the
lovely pictures and the promise of another spring and
summer to come. So in advance thanks for all the info
that I will be discovering as I go back into the history.
I'll just ignore the parts where you lucky people get
to winter yours outside...believe me that's not winter
-my pond freezes to the five foot depth!!!!!
Belated Hi
You're not going to make me feel sorry for your winters lilypon. It's that kind of cold that brings families and friends together.
I was born near you in Regina. Don't make me scan a kidlet picture of me in a snowsuit. LOL
Make sure you take lots of pond and garden pictures now, we thrive on them during the winter.
We wanna see the kidlet picture!!!!
Oh Liz, please post it...especially if it has the ten
foot snowbanks in the background!
Hi Lilypon! Welcome. Lucky you being able to buy your brugs from Miss Lizzy! She has a huge selection all grown with much love!
Lets see you as a cute little frostbitten darling Liz!!
LOL, Yeah Liz!
Hi Lilypon, good to see you here, Dennis
welcome to daves Liz------nice place to pass the winter and scam on new hybrid seeds to start in a sunny window---that sounded greedy lol but the the ppl here are generous, and we can all whine together until spring....course with as much snow as you have, Ill refrain from complaining.
Hi Kell and Playsndirt
Looking forward to learning from everyone here!
I will have to try some from seed-that will be a new
experience! I should say we haven't had the huge dumps
for a few years-but the low temps always arrive!
Welcome!!!
Hope you will like it here!
Hi Ludger
I know I will-I've already been studying up on how to
root cuttings in plastic bags, how to ship the cuttings,
what people use to pollinate....and the results of their
efforts! Looking forward to seeing some of these hybrids
in a few years!
... and I've only gone back a couple of pages so far!!!
Hi Lilypon. Daves is a great place to make new friends and learn about so many things. I'm glad you are here and hope that anytime you have a question, you will just ask. There is always someone around that can answer your question. I know because I've sure asked my share.
Welcome!there are great folks here, good info and lots of laughs!Welcome!
Lilypon, I am so glad that you joined us. You will have fun here and also receive great info regarding brugs.
Lilypon, welcome from one Canuk to another. You'll learn lots hear from good people. I'm nursing 6 seedlings from Brugcrazy and I'm anxiously awaiting blooms--it's worse than being pregnant!!
Here's my brug page showing my first year at raising brugs.
It's nothing fancy, very plain jane. Hope to add more brugs to my collection this year.

Mary P from lower Vancouver Island in Beautiful BC where we have to take our brugs indoors for the winter too.
Hi Brugie, Rootdoctor and BrugNanny
I am looking forward to participating! I've always loved
plants but am very new to the more exotic varieties that
are now available! Saskatchewan greenhouses have, on the
whole, only brought in the hardiest plants available-or
those like geraniums. We only had one greenhouse that
broke the mold and brought in Brugs, Passionflowers, etc
but they only stayed open long enough to pay off their
greenhouse. Even in our capital city I could only find
1 unnamed white brug! Saskatoon's biggest greenhouse, the
last time I was there, didn't have any brugs but did have
a small to medium sized red passionflower vine that they
were asking $65.00 for-can you imagine how much they would
charge for a Brug tree!!

Hi Poppytree
What a lovely yard you have! Your Brug looks exactly
like mine does going into it's winter rest. I'm looking
sooo forward to seeing some of mine bloom like yours!
Our temps have been between 30C to 40C these past few
weeks-it's hard working and visiting them often enough
to keep them from collapsing! We need a rain desperately!
Thankfully, unlike other hot summers, the evenings have
cooled off nicely.

I will have many questions I'm sure-I've only tried
rooting brugs once. Out of the ten cuttings-3 survived.
So I will be begging for Brugmansias and Friends help!
I was told they needed a bit of warmth-I prob. cooked
the poor things. In my defense some were Sanguinea
which I think are harder to root?!? Speaking of which
I don't think the local greenhouse should have sold that
poor plant here-from what I've heard, the hot, dry prairie
is no place for it!!
You have found the right site!
No doubt, you will be looking through plants to see your TV soon!
