I think I need a ID

Villa Rica, GA(Zone 7a)

I really can't remember what Stormy told me when she gave me this plant last fall. All she told me was to plant it in the ground and cut it back. She "thought" it was a Charles G
But wasn't sure because it had never bloomed for her. This thing was hugh when I got it and it has grown hugh already this year! This plant is almost taller than I am!!
So what do you think??

Looks like SunRay.......judging from the flowers and foliage.

Sure is pretty! How is the scent?
CG is supposed to have a real strong scent, isn't it?

A friend told me that it was a Dr Suess. Said she could tell by the leaves. Just glad to know I have a ID now!
Thanks friend! LOL

Vi, Actually it didn't have a smell. But now I think that the time of day has a little to do with it. I mean I am NO expert by no means but with my pink one it smelled Wonderful yesterday evening...and this a/m there was no smell at all! Think it could be my nose?? lol

So I guess I need to go out now and smell of it huh? Hmmm its mighty dark out there!! I'll just make dh go with me LOL

LOL!!!

Sorry about not coming back in and posting. Me and dh kinda got distracted out there and wound up sitting on the porch talking by ourselves for about 2 hours! Very unusual that we get that much alone time with the kids here.
But yes it does have a wonderful smell, even dh thinks so!

I still think it might be a toss up as to what this really is. She told me that if the blooms darkens it's DS, if it stays that color, it's probably Sunray.
So I went out this morning it had changed colors a bit, and in fact does look darker to me. So maybe its a Sunray? Ya think??

I'm confused! I had one just start growing on a deserty hill in my yard and am told they are Datura. I really didn't pay much attention to it and all of a sudden it started blooming these hudge flowers and grew everywhere. Now I'm reading about Brugmansias, are they also Datura or a completely different thing?? I was told by the nurseries here that they are very very poisonious and that if I was going to prune it to wear gloves as the "milk" could penetrate the skin. Anyone know about this? Anyway it multiplied like crazy.

Welcome to DG Littleshima!! Glad you could join us!! :)

I can't really answer all your questions, but I am pretty sure that they are poisonious! As for them being a Datura, maybe one of our experts can answer that one.
Have ya gotta picture of it??

Datura is a separate plant, very nice I love them also.here is a datura, the flower grows up,as Brugs hang down.

I kinda sorta thought that but didn't want to say for sure and be wrong. I use to have the Datura Metel(think that was the name) It was also called devils trumpet. It actually spread by seeds pretty good too. Wonder if that is what Littleshima has/had??

MOLLYBEE,she is in the zone for wild Stramonium also. She said it has huge flowers,so Metel is a good coice.

LittleShima,no need to wear gloves. The plants are somewhat poisonous but you would have to eat quite a bit.Do keep the juice out of your eyes. The juice dilates the eye but the effect wears off in a few hours. Many other ornamental plants are poisonous. The Azalea,Diffenbachia and Oleander to name just three. It is said that one Oleander leaf is enough to kill.
Both Datura and Brugmansia are members of the Nightshade family along with potatoes, peppers, tomato and eggplant.

OK folks, you've got me sold. Wow thanks for all the good information. Now all I have to do is find this wonderfull plant called brugmansia. I have trellises surrounding my whole back yard. I grew morning glories and now have a mess to cut down. I also have moonflowers and Jasmine and I am wanting something that grows beautifully and isn't such a mess as the morning glories. We are close to other mobils and I am trying to cover the trellises for the privacy. Do these climb on their own? I am really interested in trying these in Tucson. So many plants here grow that I was told absolutely would not.Has anyone out there grown these here? What would their blooming time be? When to plant?
You folks are super and have been so kind about answering my "dumb" questions. Is there a particular catalog where I can get them?

P.S. I just found them in Parks catalog but they send a 3" plant??? There must be a better way to obtain these, it would probably take forever to start that one?
