What is this?

Palm Coast, FL(Zone 9a)

About 4 days ago, I tripped and fell into my Spidorwort LOL, and when I went out yesterday, I found this growing, despite the fall, or maybe because of it! LOL

Can anyone tell me what this pretty thing is?

OH, Oh, I know! But I can't think of it! LOL It is sold as a houseplant here. Are you okay??

Panhandle, FL(Zone 8a)

Looks like either a type of Calathea or a peacock ginger,I don't know much about these. What color are the underside of the leaves?

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

We sell these at Target. LOL Following Weeds lead, this looks close. http://www.desert-tropicals.com/Plants/Marantaceae/Calathea_roseopicta.html

There you go BS, you just needed a little prompting.

The underside of the leaves is purple....a deep purple

Badseed, yeppers, that be the one!

Thank you so much!

I don't think that one is it, but the coloring and design looks close. It really burns my buns to see all these expensive houseplants growing out in some of your gardens! LOL
Connie, my brain cells have been so sucked out of me, for so long, it's a wonder I can form whole sentences. ha ha ha I think it's about to get worse too. ;)

So, this is a houseplant?!

This was left by the previous owners, and this is the first time I've seen it. In March I amended the soil, added mulch, and if I hadn't fallen, I wouldn't have seen it.

We did have a sustained freeze this past winter, and evidently, this plant wants to live.

Oh, and btw, I did hurt my hand a bit, but my pride was much more affected, since I was telling my tree men what I wanted done, and tripped! I fell right on my pride! LOL My hand is fine, thank God!

Gracie, for me it is an expensive houseplant. LOL I am sure it is a nice perennial for you. Sigh.......... I am in zone 6. You could probably pick these up as perennials for a few bucks while I'd have to pay about $10-16 for an exotic tropical houseplant. LOL I am glad you are okay. Doesn't it stink the way we do the dumbest things in front of an audience?? giggle I was backing up with a wheel barrow one day and caught my foot on some edging. I went right down on my bum. Of course that is right when my plant abusing neighbors that hate me, pulled into their driveway. I bet they nearly bust their seams trying to get inside the house without laughing. LOL

city?? lol sticks, AR(Zone 7a)

ooo lala---like the leaves on that one----cheryl

Is this what is commonly called prayer plant?

Panhandle, FL(Zone 8a)

Yep

Jonesboro, GA(Zone 7b)

Here is one that I got from Arlene last year, sadly it died in the freeze in my GH last winter. There are several different types, with similar patterns on the leaves. And yes, I paid $10.00 for a larger one here at a nursery - it died too!

My first impression of this plant was that it was a Maranta, but had never seen one quite like this, but then again, I've not lived in Florida long, either, which makes for different exposure and lighting. It surprises me that it was outside in the freeze this past winter, if indeed it is a Maranta!

I will baby this now, and, when it is large enough try to divide it so I can share this with you!
