I don't grow many hostas but this plant which is about 3 years old is really putting on a show. Have never seen such tall blooms on a hosta plant. It is really happy
blooms almost 5' tall
Wow!I have never seen one that tall!
That's huge!
from the shots Ive seen of your garden, it has to do something spectacular just to keep up with its neighbors.
Your hosta look great. Up here they are dying in the heat and drought. Just can't water everything. Those are some tall blooms.
You have obviously planted it in the ideal location in your garden! It is saying thank-you and rewarding you with it's lovely blooms & gorgeous foliage!
Do you know which variety it is? You may also want to re-post this thread in the Hosta Forum too.
The following answer as to variety was posted by LIMEYLISA
There is a hosta listed in "The Hosta Handbook" named "Tall Boy" whose scapes normally reach 50 to 60 inches tall and can reach as great a height as 75" tall. According to the author, the scape height is in direct relation to the amount of water it receives. "Tall Boy" blooms at this time of year, has a medium lavender flower with a whitish throat and darker mid-petal streaks, the flowers are funnel shape and 2 3/4" long by 1 1/8" wide. The leaves are medium green, ovate at maturity, margins slightly wavy with little or no corrugation, and 9 vein pairs.
