Boy this little guy is sooo fast! I found myself chasing him all over the garden this morning just trying to get a good pic of him. This is the best I could get, which isn't too good but it at least shows what he looks like.
New Butterfly in my garden today.
Nice one Mollybee and still a very good picture. I guess you where not too much out of breath to take the pic that good :).
Those are the times when a nice large zoom lens is wished for.
Ahh yes been wishing for a good zoom lens for a long time now, just doesn't seem to come true! LOL
Good thing I don't have any close by neighbors too, because all my running around the yard was NOT a pretty sight! LOL
hehe just imagine neighbours with a camera watching you running around chasing butterflies and finding a picture of it posted somewhere on the internet :).
YIKES!!! That is a awful thought!! The title would probably read "Floppsy on the run again!" ROFLOL!! If you by any chance come across a pic of a funny looking female running thru the yard with a camera in her hand...please let me know!! LOL
Very nice Mollybee.
That's a male Eastern Black Swallowtail.
I wonder why he is just now showing up?? I haven't seen this kind in my yard before now.
WOW!! are you sure he is real ?! ;):D
Hee hee yep he's real :D
Having read many of your previous posts, it sounds to me that you are just growing more flowers than in the past.
I have the same thing happening here too, every year I get more and more butterflies. I'm sure it is because I'm growing more flowers they like, and more host plants.
Plant parsley, fennel, rue or dill and you will get even more.
You need lots of it though. Once they find you, you will have cats out the yahoo and they are hungry.
There's a photo of the cats in my "running out of food post"
I think that is it too. As before I have had alot of plants but they were all scattered out around the yard and not all in one spot like it is this year. So yea that has to be the reason for sure. Never thought of it like that before.
I saw your post and WOW I sure wish I could get that lucky to have the cats like you have.
I'll have to put those plants on my wish list for next year.
Thanks for your info!
yes more flowers is the key. This year my allotments are a blaze of colour from all my geraniums and poppies. As a result I have never seen so many butterflies, bees and insects. The whole site is teeming with life! :)
I tell ya all the bees and butterflies really add to the beauty of anyones garden that's for sure! Just wouldn't be the same without them!
