What a fantastic specimen! We do of course get these over here in the UK but as a house/conservatory plant only of course which are only ever small (never more than about 4ft). It's great to see a fully developed specimen such as this beauty.

Check out the photos of the Beaucarnia/Nolina stricta- a very closely related and equally impressive plant.

Where in OC is that?
There is a doozie of a specimen at the LA Zoo.

I see big ones everywhere... the one above is from the Fullerton Arboretum. Nice once at UCLA Mildred Matthias garden. Massive one San Diego Zoo, too.

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil(Zone 11)

How long it takes to get this large? I always wanted one, but I´ve heard it grows so slowly that it always let me down when I´m about to buy one.

They must grow pretty fast. I was at Fullerton in 1980, it was pathetic then. Must go back to see it now.

Though succulents and drought tolerant, if given plenty of water, these things can nearly double their girth in a year or two. Most folks grow them in pots in other parts of the country, basically bonsaing them. But in fertile, well drained soil and nice hot weather, these are pretty fast growing plants

My ponytail palm has 14 heads and is approximately 25' high. We are in south Florida.
Are there larger one's in California?
