An overabundance of Pond plants

Carlisle, PA(Zone 6b)

there are three types of plants taking over my pond, a green ferny type of underwater plant (name unknown), Water Hyacinth & Water Lettuce. Anybody want to do some trading for something I don't have, please let me know. Thanks. Buttoneer (Pennsylvania)

Water hyacinth and lettuce are illegal here in Texas because they do take over.

Yeah, I know. Also California & Florida and maybe Hawaii, too. We can have this stuff in PA because it dies in the winter. There was another plant banned in Florida, which I would love to have, but forgot the name of it. Similar to duckweed, and floats on the top.

Don't Forget. All water plants that you do not want are also wonderful to place in your compost pile...or to mulch
your shrubs, especially roses...since they help to prevent the black fungus. All this I learned from my mom who has passed on...but it all works

I am in South Carolina where the Water Hy. is also banned. All of the nurseries in our state have pulled them all out in fear of a $700 fine if they are found in our ponds.

Your ponds are just doing something right....enjoy!

I've got lots of yellow water iris if you'd like to trade hyacinth. I had hyacinth in the sun room over the winter. They did great. But, I put them out befor our last freeze. Thanks,

I don't need hyacinth, have loads of it. Also don't want yellow iris. I had that before & it reseeded all over. Took me a season to get rid of it. What do you guys have to trade besides hyacinth, water lettuce, etc? I'm not looking for water lilies. Have a lot of those. Just looking for other neat stuff I don't have.

You can mulch those plants, need to remove some so you can watch your fish!!! bellie

I have been pulling coontail and fairy moss out of my pond daily and throwing them in the compost. I also have a lot of water hyacinth. I would be happy to share them with anyone.

I'd love to have some Fairy Moss. I have Bog Bean I can send or Acorus or Frogbit or water hyacinth. Let me know & thanks.

Buttoneer, you could sell them on Ebay, don't know if it'd be worth the trouble. I would love to take some off your hands, but I'm in Texas.
