Beautiful picture Barb. Are there any gingers that are hardy to zone 5 that you know of?

Hattiesburg, MS(Zone 8a)

Shirley, not that I know of. You would need to grow them in pots and take them into gh. I have never heard of any that are hardy to that zone, but I may be wrong.

High Desert, CA(Zone 8a)

Cheryl... gingers grow from rhizomes. also seeds but seeds takes a long time before it blooms. i guess u can also grow ginger plants in ur area provided u dig up the rhizome during winter time. that is what i do each winter. then replant them again when the weather gets warmer the following year.

Flicker - I have what I believe is the same plant & I did notice a hummingbird flying around it just two days ago. I think I can find the name for you, if you like - if it is still legible. Its dark now so it will have to wait till tomorrow.

The ginger is either Hedychium Sherry Baby or Shurei.

Gilmer, TX
