Rose 'Gertrude Jekyll (1986; aka AUSbord)' (Rosa English Rose (Shrub))

This is probably the most aromatic rose I've ever had the pleasure of sticking my nose into! I highly recommend this variety if you want to experience the ultimate rose scent!!

I couldn't agree more, she is one my all time favorites.

Hi Lenjo, last year we hardly got to enjoy her. Those dern japanese beetles practically ate up every rose we grew! This year though the beetles have held off eatin the roses and are now on my cannas and glads. : (
I saw in a thread here somewhere about a tip on how to keep the beetles off your plants. It's a yucky thing to try but I'm doing it to see if it works. And that is to squash the beetles and leave them on the plants. Evidently, according to what it said in that thread, the other beetles see the dead squashed ones and decide to go elsewhere!
What say you?

Ohh I don't know, I have a been beetle smasher whenever I get the chance but I don't see any difference. My dh broke down and sprayed stuff.

I think I may be noticin fewer ones on my cannas since I started the "squash and leave" technique. Not sure iffin it's had an impact on the beetles that see the squashed ones on my glads yet. Just a while ago I was squashin a beetle on one of my white glads and accidentally disturbed a honey bee, he didn't appreciate the disturbance during his supper and let me know how he felt! OUCH, the little booger stung me on my arm!

How does Gertrude Jekyll compare to David Austin's 'Heritage'? Smell, size, stem for cutting..?
Beetles...I have used the 'sqeeze and leave' technique for some years with apparent success. I have seen NO beetles in my gardens this year.

That's cause they are all moved here in my dahlias. LOL
