Unbelievable-brug trained as a vine

Hattiesburg, MS(Zone 8a)

This is amazing. I wonder how old the plant is?
I found this photo while searching Google images for brugmansias. The credits only say "Brugmansia, anciennement datura. Jardin de Shinjuku, Tokyo, Japon."
I wish I knew more about the photo. Thought everyone would enjoy seeing it.

I was going to do an area out by the pool like they do in Mexico. They make a frame and plant vines to completely cover the top(wire frame on top). I may have to plant a brug too.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

LOL. I was going to toss out who was going to replicate that effect here!

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

I wonder who Kell was thinking about?? lol

city?? lol sticks, AR(Zone 7a)

BUMP! BUMP! BUMP!

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Oh yes, this is a beauty. Wish I had the climate that would afford the time to have one grow and bloom like this. Gorgeous. It would be kind of like those grape clusters hanging down and easy to pick only smelling flowers is a lot more fun.

Social Circle, GA(Zone 8a)

hmmmm......I gotta move to zone 10. I wonder how long that took. That is coo-elle!

Ventura, United States(Zone 10b)

Playsndirt, it's hard to say which one this is. It has a pendulent flower so it could be a B. Versicolor. It could also be the hybrid Charles Grimaldi, or it could be Dr. Seuss, but the flowers look more peach to me than yellow. If this is an old plant, it may have an interesting and unusual lineage. I've never seen Brugs grown that way, but wisteria is often grown that way with the flowers draping downward.

San Diego, CA(Zone 10a)

Oh my gosh, that is beautiful! I am in zone 10. Someone tell me which brug would be the best for this? Maybe I should con SoCal out of a big cutting of frosty of go north and steal one of kell's!

I have been looking for an attractive way to shade Fiona's window but I am afraid she would be grown up before I got a brug as big as that! Lol!

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Frogs, I bet you would be surprised how fast you could have one to shade a window. If I can get one to grow to 7 or 8 ft. in one season from a cutting, in Iowa of all places, I can only imagine what you would have in a year or two. Would be awesome.

city?? lol sticks, AR(Zone 7a)

and just imagine what it would smell like if you opened the window at night? ohhhhhhhhh to be in a zone that i could grow monster brugs in? sighhhh

San Diego, CA(Zone 10a)

Soooooooooooo experts. What would be the best brugs to use for such an undertaking? Most of mine are 4" tall so I can't tell how they grow. It would have to take our blazing sun too. What do you think? I am game to try it.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I would love to see a white mixed in with the pink flowers frogsrus! It would have this effect which I loved.

I will leave the type recommendations up to the members who live in the hot places!

Very pretty kell. When are one of you going to come up with a purple one? Lol.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I had a Dr. Suess that got very tall, but part of the reason was that I cut it back to just above the Y and then it had to send out a verticle trunk again that Y'd above all of that. I think it would have easily made a great tree to use for something like this. It is gone now, so I'll never know. Another brug that would probably get tall for you would be one from seed. You would just have to grow some and see how they handled your heat, but if you are in SD, probably most would work. According to my DH, San Diego has the perfect climate for just about everything. Want to trade places. I'd give up the winter for a few years, gladly. LOL!! Happy Holidays!

San Diego, CA(Zone 10a)

Come on down girl!! but trade? Never!! I guess I will have to buddy up to the neighbor that has them roof high out in the front yard. Maybe if I groveled and begged? Brugs from seed get taller than from a cutting? I guess I do have a lot to learn. I do not have a Dr. Seuss. There are many plants native to the east that do not grow here. It is just too hot and dry.
Have a great holiday!
