New tropical for me..

I saw this Justicia online this spring and just had to order it and a red one. I already had pink and didn't care for the white one I had. I think this one is going to be really showy with some time. Looking at the garden from the deck, it is very bright and cheery looking.

ask PJ how to root them, maybe in the fall you will have extras to share of those (hint:)! I love the pink one.

They are easy to root, semiripe cuttings root easily in vermiculite or potting mix.

I like that yellow one! I have the pink & the white. You don't like the white one? I do, the foliage on it stays SO much prettier than the pink one. My pink one is blooming now, but the leaves look horrid. I have shrimp plants, too. A peach one, a red one and a yellow. I rooted the peach, and the pink and white justicias last fall. I took cuttings about six inches long, removed all but a couple of leaves. I think the shrimp plant first rooted in water, but the others were in potting soil.

sorry doc, I meant I love the pink one I have:) but you're so sweet, thank you. i have a white too, just hasn't bloomed yet.

yeah justicas are a cinch to root.
My favorite is a lil more obscure, Justica pectoralis.
the leaves smell of vanilla when dried, it was used in south american hallucinatory snuffs for this purpose and a slight kick itself.
Covers itself with tiny purple flowers constantly.

neat lil plant.

It looks wonderful Shirley, and Root, how come you didn't offer to root one for me? Just kidding you, you are the soul of generosity.

Shirley, you grow such nice healthy looking plants.

I've rooted tons of cuttings from my pink one over the last few years. I hope this one will root as easily.

I had a lavendar justicia a few years back but it was too messy for winter in the house. The white one never did grow much for me. I gave it to an old friend who had great luck with it. I also got the darker pink one with the purple under the leaves and I didn't care for it. Was happy to see this one come out with a nice plume.

Barb, my plants are a bit wind whipped this year. We have had more wind this year than I can ever remember. My DH told me that Iowa is the 4th windiest state in the US and I could honestly say, they must be right about this one.

Brugie, I have pink, white, red and lavendar justicias, didn't realize they came in yellow(except the shrimp plant type). I really like the plume on this one.

Thanks. Susie, I wasn't sure it would plume like this when I got it. Sure glad it did. My red one should bloom within the next couple of weeks. It looks like the plume will be about the same in size. I still love the heavy blooming pink one. Hopefully this fall I'll have some cutting material on the yellow one. Will let you know if I can get one started.
