Looking ahead to winter (waaaa.........)

I want to know if I can cut my brugs back ALOT, keep all the leaves stripped off of them and keep them in the part of my greenhouse where the sun doesn't hit (the north roof is solid and insulated), water them enough to keep them alive during the winter? I don't care to fight the bugs on them like I did last winter. Will the g'house be too warm for them (we keep it heated to 58 in the winter)? The size of the pots prohibits my putting them in the basement. After reading what Cala wrote in another thread about cutting them back to about 2 feet and they still bloomed.....well, I"m hoping that this would work for me. What do you think?

Anna, I think at 58 they're going to want to grow aren't they? I keep mine 45*, but it's bright light, except where the vines grew completely over the top of the gh.

Cala, I would keep the leaves stripped off. Or would that hurt them?

I keep some of mine in Jim's shop and it is about 60 degrees in there, but not much light in the corner where they are. They don't seem to grow much until spring and then I notice just a new leaf or two before I'm able to take them outside. Maybe you could hang a sheet or something like shade cloth to keep a lot of the light away from them. I've never had to spray for mites on those that are kept in the shop or the garage. I have lost some from the garage group though because it gets a bit too cool in there for the versicolors.

I guess that would work then. It sure would make it easier to keep them bug free! If they have no leaves, there is nowhere for the mites to hide.
