water lillies not blooming

Hampton, GA(Zone 7b)

One had one bloom. Others haven't bloomed at all. Wondering if they won't bloom because I haven't placed them deep enough? Help!

Fertilizer?

Pittsburgh, PA(Zone 6a)

I agree with the fertilizer. They are heavy feeders and need fed monthly. Also be sure to keep the sunlight open to the top of the plant.

Thanks. I heard of a woman who never fertilized hers and they did great. That's why I haven't bothered. I did fertilize the other day.. But one problem I had on one water lily is that it was so rootbound, I couldn't get the tablet into the soil. Could the problem with that one be that it's so rootbound or do they like it that way?

Lace, how long have your waterlilies been in the pots. I repot mine every year, otherwise they tend to grow over the edge of the pot and down into the bottom of the pool and are really hard then to get out. I do fertilize mine each year. Good Luck. Donna

The one I couldn't get the fertilizer tablet in was only 1 yr. in the pot. Guess I need to repot every year. Learning! Thanks Donna.
