Flat-flowered Aloe (Aloe marlothii)

Acton, CA(Zone 8b)

Here are some Aloes labeled as A marlothii in a reputable botanical garden that do NOT show the typical spiny leaves... probably hybrids?

Common name: Flat-flowered Aloe
Family: Aloeaceae
Genus: Aloe
Species marlothii

Interesting. Looks almost like it is crossed with A.krapohliana or one of those types that grows in a ball/urn form.

Now that I know better, I seriously doubt this is a pure species. That is how is labeled however. I may still remove it

Cabngirl,
take in mind that the plant in this photo is certainly 5' tall. So a cross with A. krapohliana is not likely at all.

CactusJordi, I see your point. I thought perhaps it might be a mix/match thing with characteristics like that-
ie I've seen dogs that have some really weird mixed characteristics of very unlike parentage- ie a basset x terrier cross- small head, long body etc.. but as I realize how many many aloes there are I imagine this is probably some other mix of varieties about which I am clueless. Sorry this is so delayed.
