I have some HUGE elephant ears, I don't know the name of them but they stand anywhere from 5 to 7 feet tall when mature plants, they love water, mo water,mo better,mo bigger, so....and in goood soil they will multiply fast, but are not evasive, strong stems, upright 3 to 4 ft. X 32" leaves. Nice tropical look around swimming pools, winter hardy, die back but return in spring. We've had down to 22 degree and they came back. If you have another variety of ear I'd like that.
CLOSED: Anyone want to trade EARS-ELEPHANT that is....
Your ears are gorgeous. I think I have the same thing. Mine are in more sun and I'm probably not giving them enough moisture, but I'll head for the hose right away. Bet someone will come along and tell you the name of yours. Great picture.
where's doc?? that's the upright and I think it's the one he has. wonderful ear!
dayflower if you still have one in the fall when it goes dormant, would love to trade. I have several varieties I got in the co-op that are doing very well.
Is that portadora? I have no idea just hoping.
Will be glad to trade in the fall or whenever...I've got gobs, and I've ordered several different new varieties from www.plantdelights.com nursery (wonderful stock) so I'm getting a pretty good collection but there are several others that I'd like to acquire such as the spotted or varrigated leaf one. The ones that come out of Fla are wonderful ! HUGE...
Nice ears..........what else ya like??
"eyes"
Looks like Alo Macrorrhiza to me,very nice stand of them I must say!
You have mail.
Hi Eyes, My collections are gingers, elephants ears, bromelaids, daylilies (over 400), hosta, and I like vines, I guess I just like Plants....every time I come in with something new my husband says "where are you going to put it?"
Root is right..it is A. Mac.
I'd love to trade but I don't have anything near that size to trade! LOL Want a kid??? :)
I may have mislead you all,-
---the picture above is what the elephant ears look like when they are mature...these are around 5 years old.....the ones I'd like to get rid of are their off spring....the 1.2. or 3 year old plants, but they grow fast with plenty of water and good loam soil, and they do multiply good. They do like shade to part shade
hehe, I don't think you could find or afford a box big enough to ship that beauty! it's just too hot here to ship almost anything, would be easier for me in the fall if you still have one.
Just remember to get back with me any time when its good for you. Fall is really a better time for all of us, much cooler for us and the plants. I would have to cut the leaf off the bulb anyway. The freezes always get the leaves anyway.
I would love to trade some elephant ears, Do you like zinnas or lilacs, or lilli of the valley, have tons of seeds too
Lori
Hello dayflower---I would love to have one or two of your elephant ear babies growing in my gardens. What type of ee's or gingers or vines are you looking for in trade? Please let me know so I may find a plant or two to trade you. Thank you, CountryBumkin
Dayflower...Oh......my goodness ....I just got the EE's you sent HOW beautiful!!!!!......even the whole ear you tucked in looked like you just cut it this morning......I am so pleased... The EE bulbs are just beautiful...and so BIG... your packaging was the best I could hope for and a surprise too.....Thank you again.... I am soooo impressed...
I have a lead on the Hi Lo you told me you were looking for and may have one in a couple of weeks.....They will call me as soon as they come in..... :o)
Thanks WW, I'm so glad you were pleased and hope you enjoy the plants. I enjoy tradeing and have met so many nice people thru Dave's garden. "Gardeners just can't be beat"
dayflower, If they love water so much, can they put in a pond or would root rot be an issue. Would love to trade, I have passion vines.
A_Leon......In florida we grow them in bog conditions...the roots are always wet. They do wonderfully like that.~tsavo.
There is a wild variety that grows in the ditches here in Louisiana that doesn't get as big as the hybrid ones but multiplies very very fast so much so that a lot of people spray their ditches to keep them out so I would think that these hybrid ones would love it along a ditch bank where they could reach down for all the water they want.
dayflower-Would they survive the full sun and the summer heat? Do you have for trade? Would love to add in my water garden.
I really don't know how well they'll do in full sun, where I have them in different places they get part shade some time of the day, but if you want to give some a try I'll be glad to send you a couple on a trade if you like and you can give them a go at it....the heat...they love.Email me personally and we'll work up a trade if you like. Thanks
Dayflower, if you still have some big ears, I'd love to trade.
Jean
