New from Montana!

Columbia Falls, MT(Zone 4a)

Hi! I posted a message under Nitrosgal before I realized that I probably should have posted here! Oh well, I'll get this posting stuff figured out!
I enjoy gardening, of couse, and lots of other things as well. I certainly enjoy this Place! I could use a few tips on how to get started here, like how do I go about building my own journal, etc. I have never joined anything like this before and can tell I have a lot to learn! Thanks in advance!

Hi Miss C,

Welcome also to our great garden site. I am not real knowledgable regarding the "own page", but if you go to the computer forum here, we have some wonderful people who will help and guide you through almost everything. We are a VERY friendly group and help everyone around here.

Donna

ps, I also posted this message on the other page too.

Welcome to Dave's Garden, MissCee!

Baker City, OR(Zone 5b)

Hi MissCee. You'll love it here. Welcome!(I've been here almost forever and haven't built a journal yet, no clue).

Franklin, LA(Zone 9a)

A warm welcome, MissCee, from South Louisiana.

To get to your Journal, click on Journal under Your Tools in the right column. There's a link at the top of that page Need some help?

Clicking on that will take you to a forum thread about starting your journal. Give it a shot. :)

Welcome Miss Cree..of course you have never joined anything like this before....THERE is nothing like this....LOL This is the most wonderful place to make friends and learn stuff....not just gardening...on the web...you'll love it. Like MaryE...I have no journal either....(PS....I don't garden either!!) Jo

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Welcome, MissCee! I am a regular on DG but in time segments. I've been here 2 years (?) and still haven't figured out how to use the journal correctly, so I don't bother. RR (Jo) is right, there IS nothing like this any place else.

Columbia Falls, MT(Zone 4a)

Thanks everyone! What fun to come home and find all these welcomes & comments on the journal question waiting for me. Now, another question, Here it is... My hollyhocks have rusty looking spots all over the leaves. I think it might be some forum of garden rust, but I don't know what causes it or what to do to get rid of it. Any suggestions?
Is there another forum that I shoud ask this question in?
Thanks!

Connie

Mercer, PA(Zone 5a)

Hi Connie, sounds like you have a problem that most hollyhocks are prone to get - hollyhock rust. A good straw mulch will help prevent this from occuring. Other than being unsightly, your hollyhocks should survive this and produce blooms.

Hi, MissCee. Welcome to DG.

I grew up part of my childhood in Anaconda. DH was a native of Conrad. We went to college in Kalispell and lived in Whitefish for three years. We sure miss that area but it has gotten so big now compared to almost 30 years ago. sigh

I don't have a journal either. I am a great procrastinator I suppose.

I have been worried about the fires in your area. How is it going up there?

Columbia Falls, MT(Zone 4a)

Ponditis, We wake up every morning to smoke, smoke, smoke. Everything smells like smoke. Fires burning all over the place with none of them really getting under control. West Glacier is closed with over 500 people evacuated from the area, as well as many homes up the North Fork. Some of them friends of ours. One family we know had time to get the dog and cat out of the house and open the coral so their horse could have a chance. The horse was later found covered in the chemical they drop on fires but otherwise unharmed. Our friends are camping in an empty house and paying rent for it until they are allowed to return home.... Planes flying back and forth all day long on chemical drops. I guess East Glacier is open, but the smoke is so bad that I don't know who would want to stay in the area if they didn't have to. So far, the closest the fires have been to my house is about 7 miles. We just watch and wait and pray for some rain... I can't remember when we've had such high heat for such an extended period of time... in the high 90's ( don't laugh, that is a serious heat wave for around here! Just not used to it!)
I guess the tourist season is pretty much over for this year which isn't a good thing at all, since so many people depend on tourism to get through the winter.

Life does go on though, and other than that I have much to be thankful for.... At least I still have my home and my health.

Maybe one of these days I'll actually start this journal thing here in DG, but I am so new at this kind of thing that I am just now getting brave enough to start posting in the different forums! Half the time I read what others are posting and go to respond then draw a great big blank...Hah! you wouldn't know it in this case, would ya?

Anyway,Thanks for asking. I've read your posts in other forums and am glad to get to know you.
My DH and I are empty nesters. We have 2 sons, ages 29 and 26. Two cats, our garden and each other. I clean houses once or twice a week, am a Stampin' Up! demonstrator, and my DH sells roasted corn at different venues in the area!
Go figure!
Thanks again,
Connie

Connie, I'll be sending good thoughts your way (wish I could send you some rain!). Reading your description of the fire situation makes me appreciate the wet weather we have.

Now, I must ask, what is a Stampin' Up! demonstrator?

Cheri'

Needville, TX(Zone 9a)

Welcome MissCee to Daves Garden - hope you like it here in the garden as much as we do!!!

Columbia Falls, MT(Zone 4a)

Sundry, Thanks for all good thoughts :>} And boy oh boy, could we use the rain. Today is very smokey but clouds have come in. We are hoping for rain and not just thunder and lightening storms. ( that's what started this mess in the first place) Anyway, we hear the news about all these other states that are getting flooded and here we are praying for good downpour... crazy, isn't it?

As for the other, I represent and sell rubber stamps and supplies through Stampin Up!. I make greeting cards, scrapbook pages, and lots of other things with these products. I give classes and teach those who want to learn the creative uses of the above and have a blast doing it. ( I don't know if I am supposed to drop business names here at DG and don't want to break any rules... so if you want to know more, email me and I will be more than happy to tell you more. I also have a web page if you are interested. http://thestamperspad.stampinup.net/Welcome.aspx
I see you are pretty new to DG as well. Have any favorite forums? Would like to get to know more about you and your part of the country.... and again, all good thoughts taken and appreciated!

Moonlighting - Thanks for the welcome! We used to live in the great state of Texas in a little town called Alvarado. right on I-35 just south of Ft. Worth. Lots of things I miss but am really happy here for the most part. It is a beautiful part of the country, but then every place I've ever lived in does have it's own special things that can't be found anywhere else!
See that you too are fairly new here, and yes, I not only like it, I love it! I have never joined anything on the internet in my life but knew within minutes of stumbling on to this site (while looking up garden rust) that I wanted to join. Funny thing, I can't stay off.... Have to check it daily. Lately very early in the wee hours cause I can't seem to sleep for all the smoke and heat.... But what the hey, just gives me another reason to wander through the garden!

Connie

Connie, I have been wondering about the fires and where they are. Thanks for the post about them. Such gorgeous country that is burning too! I used to drive up there all the time to see the eagles at the fishing bridge and ended up teaching lots of tourists about them. I have missed that area and went back a few years ago and couldn't believe how many people were there now.

We are also empty nesters although our son recently moved back home to help out here since I had double knee replacement last year and have fibromyalgia and chronic lyme disease and take care of my 90 year old Mother in her home. With the acreage (6 and 1/2) and hubby gone sometimes it has been truly nice to have the son home to help out. Son is attempting to start a PC repair and training business but he doesn't have the patience to teach me or maybe it is that I don't have the patience to learn from him. LOL We have 6 dogs, 3 puppies that will be sold next week, 2 horses, sheep, goats and lots of fish in our ponds.

I haven't worked in a few years due to Mom and my health so I guess I am a housewife now. I am NOT a housekeeper though and I sure need you to come and visit me once a week or so. giggle

Take care and just jump in and post away. You will find this group a friendly bunch with good sense of humor.

My DW is also a Stampin' Up demonstrator here in Western PA.
I sent ya an email explainin further!
Again, a very warm welcome to DG, the very best gardening website this side of virtual reality! :~)

Lincoln City, OR(Zone 9a)

never heard of Stampin' Up here.

Mercer, PA(Zone 5a)

Pond; it's those rubber stamp pad thingeys that come in all kinds of neat designs, you use ink pads with them and stamp all over people, places, and things (just kiddin 'bout those firs two). Stampin' Up is a company that makes such crafty stuff.

Columbia Falls, MT(Zone 4a)

Hi everyone, tc, the fire is in Glacier Park, and we live only a few miles from the entrance to the park. There are several entrances to the park but the main ones are East Glacier and West Glacier. West Glacier was evacuated and closed last week.
There are 3 major burns going on right now. The winds have shifted tonight and blowing right my way.... Ugh. The smoke is the worst it's been so far and so is my headache lol. We need rain in the worst way. Pray hard everyone.
Pond, check out the hyperlink I posted earlier. I just learned how to upload pictures to my site. Now I have to try and figure out how to get pictures into my journal. I tried earlier this evening and got hopelessly confused. I think I managed to get a pic of my front porch on my members page but am not sure that is what I wanted to do :>}
Tc - Say hello to another stamp-a-holic for me! Glad to finally meet some of the great folks in DG! I'll check my mail.
Nite all
Connie

Lincoln City, OR(Zone 9a)

Connie, I read your link. I just had never heard of it here. Sounds like fun for people who like that type of stuff. I have never even bought a stamp at all so I think I would be a wasted cause. LOL I do buy things like animal food and gas for my pickup though. :>)

I sure will have you in my thoughts and prayers for the fires and your safety. I would have to leave by now because of my asthma. Almost had to leave here last week because of a fire almost 50 miles away putting so much particulate into the air here. Lucky for me it finally rained and the air cleaned out. The fire is still going though :>(

Cooler temps are expected for this weekend and you are north of us so I will try to send some your way to aid the firefighters.

Sioux City, IA(Zone 4b)

MissCee just looked at your post on the voting booth and really admire your lovely photo. What a nice enterance into your home. Looks like you are doing pretty good with your camera!! My thoughts are with you for that fire to be taken care of soon. Mari

Miss Cee! Welcome to Dave's Garden. I almost feel like we are neighbors, since there's so few of us northerners here. I'm in North Dakota, just across the state line about 25 miles. I live near Medora.

I'm looking forward to getting to know you and sharing garden secrets that those people down south will envy. LOL!

Rutland , MA(Zone 5b)

miss cee - welcome to daves garden from your n.y. neighbor. you will get a kick out of this place.

Miss C, Welcome and hope the summer fires are done for the most part-it's darn near winter in your area by now isn't it!?! (just kidding you- I have two brothers- transplanted Ohioans - who live in Livingston(does that make them southern boys?) and they are still getting used to the short growing season there- Pat has lost many crops from planting too early or too late. Brian does better since his wife is native to Livingston. We've been there to visit(in the SUMMER) and loved it- every place you look it is like a postcard with the beautiful mountains (sez the flatlander from northern Ohio!!) Glad to see you here at DG I have been a member forever but not a real good poster, kind of a lurker I guess. Tuck in before the snow flies and keep us posted. MW
