July 10

Boonies, SD(Zone 4b)

Morning folks!!
Sounds like everyone is really busy these days. I lurk a lot but don't have the time to type much.
It's been raining in our neck of the woods lately. I'm not complaining, but it's just so weird to get rain in July. We got about 3.5 inches in the last week. Friends of ours about 20 miles away got 5 inches in one night. My sister had hail that stripped a field of corn, so we were lucky. My sweet corn in the garden is tassling already and it's really short. As long as I get some corn, I don't care how tall it is. I need to till in the garden too, as the weeds are growing wonderfully.!! LOL
We went fishing last weekend and the only thing I caught was the flu. I was supposed to judge at the county 4-H show the next day, but had to call them to cancel. I told the extension agent that the only way I could judge was if I were sitting in the port-a-potty. It took me two days to recover. I hate being sick!!!
DH MC'd the beef show last night and there were lots of really nice animals. The judge gave only 4 blue ribbons and 51 purples. I'm glad that I didn't have to judge any grand champions. It was pretty tough. Too bad they can't have more than one winner. The gal scheduled to clerk the show didn't show up, so DH volunteered me. At least I got a front row seat that way!! LOL
Jewel, yes, we have grasshoppers!! I think I'm going to go to Goodwill and get some sheers and cover my three newly planted spruce trees. They really did a number on the older ones, so I want to keep them off the little ones this year. With all the rain we have been getting, I thought they wouldn't be so bad. I'm even thinking about going out to get some Malathion and spraying the flower beds. You should see what they have been doing to the leaves on the roses!!!
Sounds like you need to wear some body armor to work!! You should be writing some of this stuff down in case you need to remember who, what, where and when. It's what a former boss used to say all the time....document, document, document!!
Mary, glad you are feeling better. After my sister totaled her car a couple of weeks ago, she was stiff for a long time. Her DH was going to invest in Ben Gay!! We have been going to a stained glass class together, so I've been picking her up to do that and I've even had to take her to work. Their vehicles seem to all be breaking down or getting wrecked all at once!!
Shiloh is going to go to the vet tomorrow to get neutered. I have had to tie him up lately because he looks for us when we leave and he has been in town a couple of times. Hope the neutering settles him down some. I don't know though....I thought Bubba was dumb as a box of rocks, but Shiloh is even making Bubba look good. LOL Bubba treed a huge raccoon yesterday. DH had to shoot it 4 times before it fell. Of course, once Bubba heard the click of the gun, he was GONE!!! Loud noises scare him. Even when it thunders, he shakes so much that his teeth chatter!! LOL
Better get busy, there's grass to mow, house to clean, bills to pay....
Take care everyone.
