Digging Tulip Bulbs

Marshfield, WI(Zone 4b)

I recently dug tulip & daffodil bulbs and want to plant them again this fall. I'm a zone 4. I plan to store them in mesh bags in the basement (60 degrees with dehumidifier going) until late October or so. Does this seem reasonable?

Seems a reasonable temp. but I'm not sure about the dehumidifier... might dry them out too much?

The area in the basement where I am hanging them is quite a distance from the dehumidifier, under the stairs, in the dark (surrounded by my husband's wine). If I put a humidity guage there - what do you think would be a good humidity level to maintain?

LOL, I never get that technical! I just check my stored bulbs regularly, and if they feel like they may be getting too dry, I put them in some damp peat. If they seem to be too moist, I put them out on a table or something, to get more air.

I had some stored glads which went rapidly from a bit too moist to dried skins in just about 3 weeks...

Okee dokee. I will check them every now and then, follow your suggestions, and hope for the best. Have a great day in NC.

why wait until late October? plant them at the end of next month or early September when they would be rooting naturally

Seems to be that, in Wisconsin, if I planted the bulbs that early, they would come up and then get frozen off in the winter. We have been having really mild Decembers and those darn bulbs must think it is spring. But what a trip - hearing from someone in Ireland!
