Trade for Irises anyone?

Southwestern, OH(Zone 6b)

First time, so bear with me.

I have irises, lots of irises. :-)they're all the full sized tall ones, most are at least 3 feet.

I have
dark yellow,
light yellow,
white,
purple(blue)
light purple,
white/purple two tonded
pink/yellow two toned

I have pics uploaded to my trade lists...and I have a collage of sorts I've made here.

My wish list:
Hosta's any kind
(any other shade friendly plants )
Red Raspberries (or everbearers)
*thornless* Blackberries or Marion Berries
Blueberries

Lillies that I don't have
(I have white, dark yellow, light yellow, red, and of course orange!)

Hibiscus
Anything really as long as it isn't too invasive.

The only thing I don't need any more of are Purple Coneflowers, Shasta Daiseys and Black Eyed Susan's. :-)

I don't like bulbs that have to be lifted (cept elephant ears) and I prefer bulbs, roots, etc, over seeds. I just don't have the patience to do seeds.

If anyone would like to try a trade with this newbie.... I sure would like to see how it works.

I'm not sure how the trade for postage works, so I don't think that I'd like to try that the first time out. Can I reserve the right to say "that's enough" I don't want to be overwhelmed, then again, I don't know but what everyone is swimming in Irises! It's worth a try I guess.

I've sent irises to girl-friends, and I know they do well in hard red clay of North Carolina, and in the mountains of Utah. :-)they seem to like this So. Ohio Soil pretty well too. :-)

Hi, Melissa,
What a neat collage you made! Iris is my favorite flower, and the tall bearded ones are irresistible. I would love to find something to trade for your black one. I don't have anything on your wish list, but will try to come up with something to interest you. I usually lean heavily toward wildflowers, so my list is quite different from the norm, and I live in Central Texas, altogether a different way to garden. But for a black iris, I will buy something to trade!

Yes, you are free to trade on your own terms, and should do so without hesitation. You can list the number of each that you have to trade, and edit to keep the list accurate. Lots of people do it that way. When a color or type is all traded, just make a notation beside it. Many times, people will skip posting here and email you instead, so it won't be easy for anyone to look at your original list and know if you still have something.

When someone "trades" for postage, they really mean they will send an item to someone if that someone sends postage for it. Most of us send a priority stamp, and often include a self-addressed label. Then you can get a free priority box from USPS and use the stamp and label to send the plant. Be careful when you offer to do that, because you will often be overwhelmed with responses, even long after you post that you have no more of the item.

Hi Melissa,
Glad to meet you and your children. Welcome to Dave's Garden also.

I think I can find you some hostas. Some named and some I don't know for sure what their names are. Do you mind if all aren't named? I can send you a potluck package of some named and some un-named. I figure that if I send you a part of my un-named ones, there will be two of us trying to figure out who they are and one of us may eventually figure it out. LOL

I also have the orange daylilies that it seems everyone has, but if you don't have any I can surely add some of that to the package.

I also have baby gaillardia "goblin" growing all over the place if you would want me to throw in a few of them. I've hoed out tons of them but couldn't make myself do away with all, so there's lots left. It's my own fault that there's so many seedlings because we were so busy with moving from mobile home into real house last fall that nothing got deadheaded. I've never tried to ship those, so not sure how they would do with travelling, but we could sure give it a try.

I have a campanula that I'm pretty sure is "Elizabeth" and there's lots of babies sprouting up every day.

I'm thinking that a white iris would be nice, or maybe one of the pink/yellow ones. I don't have either of those. Do any of the items I listed interest you? I could put together a package of some of any/all for trade.

Hello Melissa,
Welcome to DG! :) You will love the people here---they are all very sweet, friendly, helpful, and generous gardeners and it is like a big gardening family. You did a fantastic job on your collage. Your irises sound tempting too but right now I am so swamped with pots of plants I am still trying to get in the ground whenever the rains will let me. Hopefully, you might have some irises left to trade at a later date and I can get back with you to see what plants I might have to trade with you. Enjoy DG! :)

Hello, Melissa! What a friendly sounding post you made... I'd love some iris, but not now. (We lost all ours to iris borers.)

I hope to have a new garden in a new house later this year, and will be looking for iris come spring. 'Course, you won't have any left by then, but hopefully someone will.

Western, WI(Zone 4a)

Your pictures aren't showing up or at least they don't on my computer.

I would be interested in your black iris, pink/yellow ones, and the yellow/orangish ones.

I have hosta's but they wouldn't be ready to be lifted now, unless you wish to take a chance. One is called "American Standard" [whice flowers] a varigated leaf hosta and a plain green leafed one.

Possibly can get you raspberry bushes also.

Let me know what you decide.

Aimee, thank you for your kind words, I'm sure we can find something to trade for black iris.

Joan, I don't mind at all if the hosta's aren't named. Mine aren't named either, just some my Mother in law brought up and planted one day when we weren't home. (she's good at that) :-) I have Orange Daylillies, and access to tons of them on our farm, they're almost like our blackberries, EVERYWHERE! LOL
I'm not sure what baby gaillardia is, but, I'm sure I could find a home for one or two of them, just tell me where to plant them. :-)Same with campanula, I'm not sure what it is, but as long as it's not too invasive, ala purple coneflowers, I'd love to try some. It's supposed to be much less humid here on Friday and Saturday, so that is when I'll be doing my digging.

Country Bumpkin and Darius...Thank you for the welcomes and the kind words...
I won't run out of irises.... LOL... if you only knew.... we have one bed that is about 200 feet long, 6 feet wide,(mixed lots) another that is 20x40 or so, another that is 20x2 (all white) plus various other smaller beds all over the place. If irises were money, I'd be rich! I'll *always* have irises to trade! *If* I get to go to the KY Roundup, I'm sure I'll have an ample supply of Iris with me.

Maxine, I'd be happy to wait until your things can be lifted. :-)

Eyes, Thank you.

Hi Melissa! Nice to see you again. Good luck on your trades. :)

Thank you Badseed.... did you get any of the winds we did last night?

Tore part of the roof off of one of the barns, my mailbox is on the ground as is our flagpole, it uprooted one of my apple trees, and my mulberry tree is now leaning, destroyed some of my plants, and all my tomaotes are laying flat on the ground. PLUS we got almost 3 inches of rain! geez!

I think I may be moving some of the peonies earlier than I anticipated. Will have a few tubers of dark red ones for trade as well as the irises, if anyone is interested.

Hi Melissa and Welcome! I would love to do a trade with you, i have lots of hostas! You have mail.

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Apparently my storms weren't as bad as yours! Sounds like you really got some damage. I lost a few leaves and had to peel a pool raft off my some plants but that was about it. Will you be able to recover from the damage?? What a pain these storms are. I am thankful for the rain, but could live without the sound effects and massive downfalls. Sigh

Maben, MS(Zone 7b)

Melissa I would like to trade for some of your iris. You have mail.

Southwestern, OH(Zone 6b)

The apple tree is trying to right itself. the mulberry is so large, I'm unsure what it will do. Most of the damaged plants were coneflowers and other tall varieties, I think they'll be ok. My butterfly bushes, however, look really [deleted] now. :-(

Joan, Maxine, I mailed your packages today, to anyone else who has contacted me about trading, I need your addresses!!

Aimee, I have a black saved for you, but I need your address.

Melissa, you have mail!

I looked at your page, and you look like someone I would like to have on the next farm over. Nice smile, nice summary and nice attitude. I like farm people, as I grew up with them.

Cute kids, too.

Hey folks, I am new to Daves and would like to know "What is the Co-Op and how do you access it. I have seen so much of I got it on the Co-Op so I want to use it to.

Franklin, LA(Zone 9a)

Hi WillowWasp,

Co-ops are group purchases organized by members for members. Put the Co-op forum on your watch list so you can monitor it for Co-ops that might interest you.
Here's a link to that forum.
http://davesgarden.com/f/coop/

right now there is a plant marker co-op, an iris co-op, a fall bulb co-op ... I don't know what all else. LOL.

I have plenty of iris left if anyone would like to do postage. They're mixed, can't guarantee what you'll get, but it will be either white, yellow, pink/yellow mix or purple with white falls.

5.00 postage should get you several nice sized rhizomes.
