Country goats goin' to the big city

Brewers, KY(Zone 6b)

When my dairy goats had their babies (called 'freshening')I set my mind out to not get attached to the babies because I knew they couldn't stay with me. Well, needless to say, I fell in love with their gentle sweet nature. Trying to find good homes for the little guys turned out to be quite a chore. I had a bunch of folks that wanted them, but no one could pass my interview..lol. Two of the babies went with my neighbor, she passed the interview and one went to live with a Dr. who raises Boer Goats. That left me with 3. On a whelm, I called the New Orleans Zoo, I knew they had a children's petting zoo and had goats there. Much to my surprise, they were interested. Yesterday 2 zoo reps came out and inspected my property. They took pictures of everything, from the water buckets to the fencing. Seems like they do a heavy inspection of the owners property before they even accept an animal. Often times the animals that are wanting to be donated are in poor shape and the owner gets turned in to the Humane Society. They were very pleased with my set up and how healthy my goats were...even said they never saw such beautiful animals!!

They left without the goats but a roll of pictures. They will present the pictures to the Board of Directors at the next meeting. If the Board agrees that my place looked like the animals were well kept, they will come out and take a Fecial sample. There after, live in quarantine for a month. They take every step to make sure the animals are healthy and free from sickness.

If all goes well, my little guys will be in the petting zoo for children and also they are going to train the spotted one to do PR work(that is if I want to give him up, haven't decided yet)...Isn't that great???!!! I am jumping for joy because I know my little guys will have the best care they could possibly get. (Other than myself of course)

So lets hope I pass Phase 1...which I think I did. I'll keep yall posted if interested.
