Don't leave a hanging sword unattended in summer!
This plant looks a lot like the Sword Fern in cultivation, Nephrolepis exaltata. Polystichum is a native species, a lot smaller than the one commonly sold in nurseries and outlet centers. I can't tell which this one is since it's such a close up, but it sure looks like the cultivated species. Not a fern expert, though.
I love the fact that the little birds have made their nest in your fern, that is so cute.
I am almost ashamed to admit that I have moved this plant to keep them from making another nest this year. This fern is rather large and lack of water was a real problem until the birdies went bye bye. So I have it where I can keep a closer eye on in until birdie season is over. Keeping them out of all of my hanging plants is an ordeal in the early spring. The finches think its wonderland!
Oh I love little finches, they don't nest in my planters but they do enjoy playing and eating my sunfolwers. I grow enough of them for the Squirrels, the birds and my self to enjoy.
My brother and his family lives in San Diego, Ca and I love it there except for the way the people drive. I love boating and fishing at the Mission Bay Marina. I also love the swap meets that you have there, if I lived in San Diego you could always find me at one on Sat morning early lol. Maybe I might get a chance to visit some time soon, I would love to see my neices, newphews and my brother.
