I am growing this fella this year for the first time. I ordered my start from Plants Delight, it was a little spendy. At this time it is about 30 inches tall and I expected quicker growth but not yet any how.Was this a plant in your garden?
Yes,I have been growing this in my garden for the last three years.Awflly exciting and thrilling as you might find lateter.
A little slow in growing at first but quick and vigourous when autumn comes.
Most important thing is to protect it from strong winds.
In late autumn , your garden visitors will be flabbergasted,I'm sure.

Hi not been in here for ages. I live in UK, just read about Tree dahlia imperialis.
I have this wonderful plant for last 5 years and it flowers from July onwards till frost. 100s of blooms. I keep it in a south facing sheltered spot in 24" deep tub and is thriving more every year.
Since this was new to me, ( for fear of loosing it ) I overwintered 1 in cold greenhouse, the other left outdoors, the outdoor plant came back sooner, but both flowered really well from July onwards.
Can't wait for flowers again, the most wonderful plant I have.
I live near Washington DC and grew mine last year from a wood cutting (it looked more like a shrivelled up stick) I was given. It really took off in August and grew to about 12 feet but did not bloom. After the first severe frosts in November everything shrivelled and I cut it back to about a foot above the ground and covered the roots with leaves and then plastic. I don't know if it will survive or not, but if it does I look forward to blooms this year perhaps.
