Probably has not been researched on brugs, but very interesting. it seems hydrogen peroxide kills the fungus on seeds!!!!!!!!!!!
i wonder if this would help the seed problem.

fusarium can be passed on through seeds
That's a good site Arlene. I haven't had any trouble with the fusarium in my seedlings(crossing fingers here), but didn't save any seeds from the infected plants. MaVie uses H2O2 on all her seeds, maybe that's why she has great luck with them! Maybe when she gets back and is feeling better, she will post her recipe.
Great info, Arlene. I am glad that I have more time to spend here now as I am still learning everything that I can :)
i use 1 tablespoon of H2O2 for every gallon of water in soaking seeds. soak the seeds for about 2-3 days, then plant them on seedling mix. i peel the seeds prior to soaking.
every other watering on established brug plants, i spray my plants with H2O2. i use the MG foliar sprayer using 1 cup of H2O2. water on the hose dilutes the H2O2 as i water the brugs. knock on wood, i never have any spider mites problems. when caterpillar are present, they emerge from their hiding, ready to be pick... avoiding further leaf or flower damage. hth.
Arlene, did it work at your Stängelbrandplants ?
I have thrown the plants away. there was a seedling blackberry lilly that had bright red and pink roots in one of the pots, so i guess it is the furasium.
Ma Vie, I will try your spray mix of MG with the hydrogen peroxide as soon a I get home for I had a few plants that kept getting spider mites and were driving me crazy.
It is so good to see here again posting! I hiope you are feeling well and back to your old self!
Kell, i alternate with Palmolive soap and Murphy's oil: 1 tbsp. each to a gal of water, one day then the H202 the other day. it worked good for me summer of last year. don't have the time of the day to mess around with tbsp. measurement, so i use 1/2 cup each of Palmolive soap and Murphy's oil. i spray one way, then spray the other way, like a cross pattern... that way u get the plants on all sides and direction. also spray under the leaves if u can. i use Palmolive soap cause it makes water weater... if that make sense... hehehehehe. good luck Ms. Kell. when do u anticipate to come back to Calif.? soon i hope ;).
a couple more weeks I think. So you use 1/2 cup of Palmolive and Murphy's in your MG sprayer? Doesn't that make tons of suds?
yes it does create lots of bubbles, but i have lots of plants to spray too. it does not really matter cuz it also get rid of other pest around the yard. like i said, what mattered was not to have the spider mites and the caterpillar comes out of hiding... so easy to pick them off the plants.
MaVieRose,
Do you mix the palmolive and murphy's together or use them seperately? I'm going to try this because the caterpillars are lunching on mine quite heavily. I go around several times a day and pick and think I have all of them just to go back later and find more.I also am having a problem with a few sedlings . I don't see any visible bugs, but all of the new growth from the top seems to be coming out kind of twisted and distorted looking. I'm still new at growing brugs and am not famliar with any of their diseases and such and really need to get a good book about them. Does anyone have any suggestions on one?
I see you are new here Catsmeow, so I want to say WELCOME! You will be a brug pro in no time. I wonder if you have spider mites. They love brugs too much.
I use Bt (Bacillus thuringiensis) for my caterpillers on my brugs. I only had to spray the eaten areas once or twice last year and no more!!!! It is environmentally safe Iunderstand.

welcome catsmeow. don't let me scare you, as Ludger told me, they are only plants, lol. Monika has been hybridizing brugs forever and has a book, i think you can email tig to buy it. i often let cats eat my brugs, after a while i loose patience with them. i keep an extra frosty pink to put them on, lol.
welcome to the DG Catsmeow. i mix both Palmolive and Murphy's oil together. the oil from Murphy's oil help the soap to adhere to the plant, plus it is all natural. the soap soften the soil and deters insects from eating the plant.
check around ur seedlings for some rolly polly's. Meiyu had the same problem once before. remember i am no pro, am learning to grow brugs from reading and some help from friends here at DG, and basically using a lot of common sense in the process. take note too, that we have different atmospheric area, temperature and soil conditions. use u're best judgment in growing ur plant. what works for one may not work for others... simply try to digest what u read and apply accdgly. good luck.
Mavie, thank you for the tips! i use murphys when i use a soap mixture on plants, need to do that. i just now harvest a BF pod, 52 seeds, and within 3 minutes had rinsed them and have them in water/peroxide mixture. i read that could take 90% of fungus off seeds.
Thanks for welcoming me guys. I've been growing brugs since February and have aquired quite an exstensive collection since then. Hope i'm not biting off more than I can chew. I'm in the process right now of clearing a place to row run my brugs. That I think will be the easiest way for me to take proper care of them. Have all in one location and be done with it.
MaVieRose,I'm going to try your mixture as soon as I can get to the store and get the ingredients to do so. Don't know what the problem is that I have with the brugs but maybe this will work.
always a pleasure to pass on things i have observed and learned Arlene :). so far i get 80% success on seeds i plant. only ones that never made it are empty inside the seeds.
Catsmeow, we normally indicate the location of where we are located cause sometimes it help to know what kind of advice to give. i am also in zone 8a. i am situated in the higher desert of So. Calif. where the soil is harse sand, and it is extremely dry. i do premix my own soil for the brug plant and seeds to meet their basic requirement.
i buy the most of my supplies either at Walmart or Home Depot ... which ever has the better price to stretch my $$$.
Mavie,
I'm in zone 8a South Carolina and have posted that on my members page but it doesn't seem to want to display the state for me
Catsmeow,
click on Preference on about you, click on location to indicate ur area, then submit. it should show by then.
Mave,
I' have tried that about a dozen times and it just doesn't recognize it for some reason.
Have you shut down and re-booted your computer since you made the change? If not, that is supposed to help. You can always go to the bottom of the page and click on contact us. Someone will get back to you with some help.
