I know this will sound crazy-----please dont laugh--well ok laugh if you wanna. I had some volenteer pumpkin vines spring up from last years jackolanter. Just for fun I have been bombing them with miracle grow and water. Then I noticed something------------the leaves look really wonderful---two foot across and--tropical even. Next year I intend to plant a few *a few goes a long way* along the edge fanning out from either side of my waterfall, and train the vine along the waters edge. Ill problably nip most of the flowers off and try to grow a monster pumpkin or two, the scum you syphon off the bottom of your pond makes the best plant food in the world. Have any of you ever paid attention to a punkin vine? I didnt realize they were attractive. cheryl

Heck,I have cucumbers in a hanging basket so why not a pumpkin pond?
I have a pumpkin patch growing next to my pond. 1 plant goes along way. I planted 4 seeds and its taking over my garden. I have a question, a coulpe plants did die and the pumpkins are small and now orange. should I harvest the pumpkins and plant new for the fall?
A-leon----give it a shot and lets learn together? you have a long growing season it looks like? I have one that is trying to orange up on me too :) what would really be cool is if you could some how produce a varigated pumpkin vine? or even cooler then that is pumpkin vine shaded like caladiums!!!!!!!! its easy to dream big----but what direction to go in to attain those things is way out of my league lol cheryl
playsndirt, thank you for your insight. That would be very cool, a varigated pumpkin vine. I think I will go home today and harvest what I've got and then plant a couple more seeds and see what happens. If any one else wants to join in on the experiment creating a varigated pumpkin vine please reply. what are caladiums?
