went to Freds dollar store and found cannas, calladiums, and glads for ten cents a pack-----------some were too far gone but I snagged 28 packs that looked like they might make it----they started out life at 1.49. Wonder if the glads might bloom this year? We have a long season here. Sorry its not brug related, but I already called my poor hubby n I was hoping yall would be more thrilled then he was. lol cheryl
off the subject.....
That is a great price but I think the glads around here have bloomed already....I could be wrong.
I love a bargain also and for that price if they do not make it they will add organic matter! LOL
speakin of organic matter---well sorta---is it better to fertilize brugs right before a rain or after? or does it make a difference? Glory, do you think its too late for these glad corm thingies to try to do their thing? fall/late summer blooming glads? hmmmm
The ones I left in the ground are blooming now. I have others I did not get in until proper planting time and they are just now about two feet tall. I think you should go ahead and plant them. You should still have enough time. If not, they are easy enough to find if you want to dig them. LOL I leave mine in the ground anyway. :)
I think I once read that you could stagger your glad planting to have blooms for a longer span. course maybe I dreamed that? lol ty badseed
Glads normally bloom in late July-Aug-Sept here (Pacific Northwest). Ours are about 2 feet tall (just leaves yet) and they were left in the ground last winter. Yes, you can stagger the plantings for longer blooms. Two weeks is good spacing. (Grandpa was a major glad grower in the 30's-50's.) Congratulations on your finds! What bargains. :)
We make succession plantings of glads here in zone 6/7 right up to the 4th of July at two week intervals. Yours should be fine.
I was just thinking I have a couple of hundred glads I have not planted yet. LOL. I will probalby get to it in few weeks.
