I have four different passionvines, all in huge pots. They are growing like crazy, but no flowers. Is there a trick to getting them to flower?
The only thing that flowers really well is my Maypop that is growing everywhere. Some of it gets watered and fertilized with the rest of the garden and in other places it has to fend for it self. So in it's case it doesn't seem to matter what I do to it.
Passionvine, no flowers
Hi Paintedlady,
Full sun is usually a must. Too much fertillizer will make all vine and no flowers. Use a little epson salts when you water and use a high potassium fertilizer occassionally. Right now I have blooming: citrina, violacea form 3, lavender lady, incense, trifasciata, caerulea, foetida Love in the mist",alato-caerulea, and Dakota. I have buds on Lady Margret, nephrodes, and foetida ciliata.
ALL are in full sun.
The pic is violacea form 3.

Thanks for the answer Flicker, you must be a passiflora collector.
I don't think they got too much fertilizer, but I will try the epson salt and move them to a sunnier place. They are getting sun from about 11 am, but I can try an all day sun spot.
Nice photo.

Dear Paintedlady,
How is the passionvine I sent you doing? You sent me passiflora incarnata. It is in full sun and starting to put on length. No flowers yet.
Yes, I do collect passionvines. Some are showier than others Today I have at least 15 Lavender Ladies blooming. It is hardy here in z8b and a dynamite bloomer.

Hi Johanna, You had me thinking I was getting really old for a minute, I could not for the life of me remember the name Flicker. I had to go back and check the first email.
The Incence is doing great, it is in the ground since it is hardy. The Morning Glory is also starting to go to town.
The ones that I have in pots are, Mollissima, Quadrangularis, Lingularis and Edulis (it's raining so I can't go out and check the spelling.) They where all seeds from ebay.
If I never get any flowers, at least the gulf fritt cats are enjoying the Mollissima
My hat is off to you, Paintedlady! The only one that you are growing that is supposed to be easy is edulis. I bought a huge quadrangularis--set 2 flrs and promptly died. Ligularis is said to be very difficult. Mollissima loves Calif. but is not supposed to tolerate heat and humidity. If you are successful with these this summer I will definitely give them a try!
Maybe I will check out ebay.

Great, I'm growing difficult ones!
I think it was 7 kinds of seeds in one auction. Ten seed of each. The ones I mentioned germinated really well, then there was one that never came up and two that only one seed of each sprouted. Those two has kind of been misstreated, but are still alive. Maybe I should plant the poor guys.
Anyway, the wines are doing really well so far, they are probably six feet or so now. The Mollissima suffered for a while when the heat set in, but seems to have got used to it.
I'll keep you posted on their progress.
