I'm so glad you got it ID'd!
Bob Crystal, that is surely a very different bindweed from what we call bindweed in this area. The ones that grow here have white morning glory like blooms, 2 kinds, one has blooms just over an inch, the other the blooms are about 2 1/2 inches, both are white and both are equally noxious and hard to get rid of. Donna, it turns out it's something very different - the hyperlink will take you to the plant's real ID :)
Is this photo of pale swallow-wort, Cynanchum rossicum, or of black swallow-wort, Cynanchum louiseae? The two species differ mainly in the flower color---pale swallow-wort has pale flowers. In other respects, they're hard to distinguish, and they're equally nasty weeds.

Wow - this was a blast from the past! Reading BobCrystal's comment leads me to conclude it is probably correctly ID'd - he mentioned the flowers are brown.
