Had a lovely time in Kentucky! Didn't get on line much. My mom had a dial up network. Took FOREVER to get something to load.
Returned home to many dead/dying plants. My husband failed to water many of my potted plants. Of course going from 60's to 90's in a days time, didn't help. My brugs of course were hit the hardest. My maya that was in full bloom when I left is now a leafless mess. Not to mention all my cuttings bit the dust. Since I'm mad as heck! I'm trying to dwell on the postive so I don't ring my husbands neck. Here is one plant he managed to water and keep alive. My white seedling that has been in bloom on and off since December. It's sure putting on a show.
I'm off to water and cut back some plants.
Hugs* Kristi- who's trying SO hard to be nice to her husband!
Back from my trip!
Sorry Hon.Glad you are back on,now get out there and get the hose going.
What a toss up,I might have to just get a quick dip in first.Beautiful shot!
Good to see you are back. How could they get so bad in just a week? Hope they all come back, might shock them into making lots of blooms!
What about your seedlings? Did none of them survive? You can sure have starts back of anything you need + lots more.
Kristi,
I'm so sorry to hear about your Brugs having such a difficult time while you & your Mom were away. I hope with a lot of t.l.c., cutting them back and rewarding them with plenty of fresh water to drink that they will all bounce back very quickly!
I know that when we go out of town, I have to give our younger son specific instructions as to which plants MUST BE WATERED NO MATTER WHAT!!! Yes, many plants suffer while we're away from them, put that firmly convinces me to vacation much more in the Spring or Fall, when rain is more abundunt or in the Winter when plants go into dormancy. I even told my D.H. that I won't every travel again while my vegetable garden was bearing produce. Now, I'll have to include my Brugs on that list too!
Your pool looks so cool and inviting. I bet the plants surrounding it do well from the constant splashing water. So kids (and adults too), anyone ready for a water battle??
Kristi, you know if I have any that you lost that I will share them with you. Just email me and let me know.
Thanks you guys! Your too sweet. I didn't lose any big plants. Just some cuttings and small seedlings I had in the garden area. Thank you so much for all your offers.
I'm trying not to be to down on my husband- trying is the key word. When I left it was 65 degrees, the very next day it turned 95. It stayed that way all week. The hottest day up until that point was 75. Who would have thought it would get so hot in a matter of 24 hours!
Next time I go away I'll put potted plants in the shade. Maybe attach some blinking lights so he doesn't forget.
((Kristi))
Kristi, I'm so sorry. I know that your heart must have sunk when you saw the damage from the heat and lack of water. If I have anything you need, just yell. I'll sure get you a start as soon as I can.
Kristi, this thread is sure depressing me. I say kill him now and kill him fast!
Thanks Brugie! Kell I thought about you and your plants today. I SURE hope your husband is doing a better job!! You'll have to give him some friendly, or not so friendly reminders.
LOL Kristi. I think I will email him this thread and show him what his fate will be if he fails. He has already told me he does not know how I can hand water everything, he had no idea of the time it required. He also said he absolutely hates it. LOL
Actually, plants are not as important to me right now. Though I would love to go back home and have everything like it was before. I sure miss my cat.
Did my plants to you die? Or were they old enough to survive? If I have anything left, I will send you more.

What a lovely plant with the pool in the background.
Kristi, I hope he didn't manage to kill Snowbank, did he? If he did, I assure you, THAT would be a killing offense.........The very few times we are able to get away in the summer I have my neighbor come and water. She loves plants, so it's fun for her. Besides, by doing this for me, I winter over her few tropicals in my greenhouse for free. She also comes down and waters for me in the greenhouse the week we are in Cancun in December. No, I won't lend you my neighbor!!!! Hope most everything turns out to be "Lazarus plants" and they arise from the dead.
Kristi:
I'm sorry about your plants, :-( and I'm sure your husband is too. I know he didn't mean to fail you and your plants. Because he made a mistake this time, it will motivate him to be more conscientious in the future. Now is a good time to have him do all of the things that you want him to do!
:-)
Kristi, I had forgotten that I was supposed to send you a cutting of your white seedling this spring. The one that's blooming now isn't the same one that you sent me, is it? Tell us what cuttings you lost, and if I have it, I'll send you some. Do the big plants look like they'll survive?
AnnaZ, i put my snowbank in the ground yesterday, roots were starting to come out of the pot...5 gallon i think. it looked as happy as could be this morning.
Kristi, don't be too quick to throw away, sometimes even little ones will come back from the roots. i have the same exact kind of DH. last time i was away i set up the sprinklers in the most important places and called him to make sure he had turned them on several times.
Men don't forget to water, they just decide not to do it. They sit around watching TV, or something else they enjoy, and think about how they should go out and check the plants. They then decide to do it tomorrow. The next day they think the same thing. The day before you are expected back, that's when they go out, only to discover that the plants are already dead. Then when you come home they will tell you they forgot.
The only way to get around the problem is to tell the man before you leave that he has to check the plants every day. Also tell him that if any plants are dead when you come back, you will divorce him and take him to the cleaners.
Unless the man is a gardener, it's the only thing that works.
Kristi, I'm sorry about your plants.
Kell, I agree with your advice!
Kris! LOL!!!
LOL, sounds like you have been there, said that. So true...
