Spinx Moth feeding at Ocotillo Blossom
Spinx Moth feeding at Ocotillo Blossom
Great pictures! Too bad this plant won't grow here in our humidity, the critters sure seem to like it.
That is a really nice photo, and I agree with Floridian, too bad we cant grow that here. It looks like a cactus, can it grow in a pot?
It probably could be grown in a pot but I'm not sure about growing in a humid area. The Ocotillo in the photo is right next to my deck at the front door and is approximately 12 ft. tall and 8 ft wide at thhe widest point. I transplanted it from another area of my property when it was approximately 3 ft. tall about 15 years ago. The blossoms are favorites of several birds-hummingbirds for the nector and other birds just like to eat the little blossoms. During dry years (we've had less than 2 inches of rain this year) I water it enough to make it leaf out otherwise the plants will blossom and not have any leaves on. Thanks for your compliment!
Like the Texas Sage (Leucophyllum frutescens) Ocotillo would just fade away in this humidity.
