This is a really unique plant and the first time I've seen it. I looked up some info on it last night and read that it can grow from seeds or separation. Can you tell me how long it would take to grow from seed? If it's years, I would be better off getting the plant as I want it for next years blooming time.

Donna, they're sold with fall bulbs. I'm not sure how long it would take for seeds to grow but I bet it would be a couple years before you got blooms. They're not easy to find because everyone sells them under a different name. Mine were labeled as Allium siculum (Can't remember where I got them). I found them at John Scheeper's under Allium bulgaricum http://www.johnscheepers.com/catview.cgi?_fn=Item&_recordnum=1145&_category=Allium

The individual blooms are small... about half an inch wide. They dangle in clusters from the top of the stem. I think they're sorta strange looking :) I had to stake mine this year to get them to stand up straight. The foliage is at the base and they send up a slender stem about 2 feet tall. Here is a pic of the flower clusters. The above photo is looking up from under the bloom so you could see the inside of them.

Breck's (www.Brecks.com) sells this plant under the name Mediterranean Bells. The photo they show of it doesn't look near as droopy as all the photos here. Did your blooms always droop, even right after a big drink of water?

GtKelley, the blooms always droop like that. It has nothing to do with water... it's the way the flowers hang. Maybe the Brecks plants are a cultivar???...

This plant is absolutely beautiful!!! Anybody tried or knows if it can grow and flower in Zone 11 to 12? I live in tropical Malaysia and the average temperature is 24 to 32 degrees celsius all year round. Does this plant need to go through a period of cold tempratures in order to flower?
