maybe this orchid bloomed at this unusual time due to, or related to, our recent hurricanes! Much plant material here responded to the high winds with unusual blooming times and also rather atypical responses to normal injury. I have a Live Oak that boled over an old and healed scar in less than a week after the third hurricane came through. Not REALLY wierd, but remarkable nonetheless.

Wow that is very pretty and interesting. Thanks for sharing.

Isn't this the orchid that was featured in the novel, "The Orchid Thief"? When reading the book, I really wished that there had been a picture of the orchid. Now I know what it looks like. Thanks!

very strange and beautiful.
Been meaning to read that book. I saw the movie based on it- but I suspect the book is very different.
:) thanks

The book is unbelievably different from the movie. The movie is really a made-up version of what could happen when twin brothers decide to adapt a book for screen.

Read this book. Great to see pictures of what I could only imagine. It grows just as I pictured it.
