I've finally decided that my extra bog plants are not going to take care of themselves, and I'm tired of babying them. So I after I get a long-overdue box on its way to Dave and Trish, I have several of each of the following I'll be glad to send for trade or postage, first come, first serve:
Oenanthe javanica (Water Celery) - a great bog filter plant if you have a "veggie filter" or in your pond as koi food)
Myosotis scorpioides (Water Forget-me-nots) - a bog/marginal plant that blooms from spring till fall on and off
Lindernia grandiflora (Blue Moneywort) - another creeper, but pretty well behaved
Saururus cernuus (Lizard's Tail) - the flowers look kinda like Gooseneck Loosestrife; does well in the shallow end of my pond.
My tradelists are hopelessly out of date, so don't rely on them - I could use some water lilies that can stand part-shade, or other interesting water plants (I have yellow, white and pink water lilies, all hardy, but nothing spectacular.) There are always other things I'd love to have, but never recall them until someone tempts me!
Help yourself to some bog plants, please!
I'd love some of each terry and have a bunch to trade if ya want to go that way or if ya want postage email me to let me know hun!
Katrina
Terry, could I get some of the forget me nots and Lindernia grandiflora for postage? I do have lots of arum, nice plants that I leave in mine year round.
Katrina and tig - sounds good, ladies! I'll email you tomorrow with my addy, and we'll work out the details.
There are still plenty left, so if anyone else wants some, please speak up - it's comforting to know these plants will be going to good homes, instead of my compost heap!!!
I don't have any of the plants you mention and have yellow water iris coming out my ears. Want to do a trade?
I woould love to trade for the following please-
Water Celery
Water Forget-me-nots
Blue Moneywort
I am sure I can find something here that you would like to trade for, I am bad with keeping up with my trade list too but take a look anyway.
Could I get some blue Moneywort and forgetme nots and lizards tail for postage or I have some land plants to trade? I don't have much on the water / bog plants cause this is my first bog garden {in progress } that I've ever had. Thank you...b
kokopelli, thanks for the kind offer of yellow iris, but yesterday my sons and I hauled a hundred-pound, four-foot diameter cluster of them out of my pond (let's just say they do too well in my pond, lolol...) But I'll be glad to trade for some "land plants" or send these to you for postage.
toadlily, if you still have red Thalia, I'd love to have some! Otherwise, email me and we'll work out a trade or we can do an SASE.
babsadventure, sure - send me your list, or point me to wherever you've got it, and I'll take a look :)
For anyone else who comes along...I'm afraid the moneywort is probably all gone (I'm hoping I have enough for the requests already posted.)
Terry, do you still have the forget-me-nots? I have buttered popcorn ranunculus and brooklime. Both will grow in a pond or bog or in the ground.
branka, I do still have some FMG's - and I'd love to try the brooklime (I'm guessing it's Veronica beccabunga?)
I'll email everyone in a few minutes to get the ball rolling, and then figure out what I still have to give away :)
You guessed right and I think that you'll like it, thanks!
That sounds great, Branka - thanks! While I was at it, I looked to see if we had this plant in the PDB, and we didn't. So I did a quick search and added both the European (V. beccabunga) and American (V. americana) species: http://plantsdatabase.com/b/none/Veronica/none/species
Hopefully you and others can share your experience/opinions, details, and images :)
I didn't realize that it was not in the PDB. I just added info and a photo.
I too would like some of each. Do you have any for postage?
Terry, I don't need any water plants but when you are deciding on what else you have excess of please consider me & give me a chance to see if you have some that I want. My hydrangea that you gave me is blooming and it is beautiful. Also, the oak leaf hydrangea has been beautiful.
Branka, I saw the pictures and info - thanks!!!!
catbirdsue, I'm out of the Lindernia/Moneywort, and may or may not have any Lizard's Tail left. But I'll be glad to put together a box of what I do have, for SASE. I'll email you with information.
Elena, bless your heart. Do you know my Hydrangeas (same as what I gave you) have not bloomed in two years? I have no idea what I'm doing wrong - I did prune them the very first year, at the wrong time, a big no no I discovered. But for two seasons I've left them alone, only removing the dead stems. For my efforts, I get foliage, but no blooms. They're both in part shade, although one gets a fairly decent amount of sun each day. Sigh.
I'm glad your Oakleaf Hydrangea is doing well, too. On that score, mine have done pretty well, even one I transplanted last June (It was 4' tall and nearly that big around at the time - I thought I'd killed it for sure. I just finished pruning my "big'un" - it was 8' tall and 10' wide - much too big for the spot. I hope my pruning was more beneficial than stressful for it...
I'll email you; maybe if I tempt you with some plants you and DH will come see me???
Terry, Can the water forget-me-nots take shade?
woodspirit, I have mine in a partial/full shade setting where they get maybe an hour or two of filtered sunlight each day, more in the winter. They'd probably be a bit more vigorous with more sunlight, but they seem to do okay where they are.
I'd love to have some. Do you need some ice plants? I also have some obediant plant and some perennial candytuft
woodspirit, some perennial candytuft would be nice (I tend to kill the Delosperma...I don't know why...) Please email me with your address. Thanks!
Terry I sent your items you wanted in trade out today tehy should arrive soon!
Katrina
We should cross in the mail, then - yours went out today, along with 6 other boxes...I'll contact each one individually, so I can keep it straight in my tradetracker.
kokopelli, babsadventure, catbirdsue and woodspirit, I need your addresses - please hurry, these plants are wearing out their welcome mighty fast!!!
Terry, watch for your box in a couple of days, I put it in the mail this morning. Thanks for the trade!
Thanks, Branka! I just finished emailing everyone whose package went out yesterday. Catbirdsue, I got your card in yesterday's mail, and your package will go out today :)
Terry, I got my plants today. Thank you so much for the trade. Yours should arrive soon as they were mailed Tuesday.
Terry
I would love some of each, I have tons of Lilac seed marigolds, columbines, hibiscus. Do you want to trade or postage?
Thanks Lori
I got boxes from Branka, toadlily and plantsdirect yesterday and today - thanks! I hope y'alls made it to you, too! I've sent an email to everyone whose boxes went out on Monday.
Catbirdsue, babsadventure, and woodspirit's boxes will go out Monday (car trouble kept me from being able to make a PO run on Tuesday, and I didn't want them to swelter somewhere over the weekend, which might well happen if I had mailed them later in the week.)
Lori, I'm so sorry but I think after that the only thing I'll have left is some Water Celery. If you want it, I'll be glad to put some slips in an envelope and send them to you for postage :o)
Mine came yesterday and it's now planted in it's new home, thanks so much!
MAYBE NEXT TIME THANKS!
lORI
Terry, I have been slow sending the perennial candytuft because my sister was here from Dallas. Now an old college friend from California is here with his girlfriend and I am taking them up on the Blue Ridge Parkway today. I will dig and pack the candytuft when they leave, probably Tuesday. Sorry for the delay.
Terry, we spent two days with DD in and out of hospital, but it went out today. thanks so much!!!
Thanks, tiG! (Hope DD is better!!!)
Okay, the last of the plants were boxed up this morning, and will get to the P.O. within the next few hours. I'll email those who are receiving them so you'll know when to expect yours. And my little holding tank is officially devoid of plants for the first time in a few months - woohooo!!!!
Thanks again to everyone who traded/sent postage - I hope these plants do as well in your bog or pond as they have in mine! (If they do, you'll probably have some to trade next year, lol!)
