Brug ripped out of the ground

Ellabell, GA(Zone 8a)

Had one heck of a storm here today. Most of my brugs where tied up and not too much damage was done, but my poor shredded white was laying on the ground. It's about 4 feet tall, the trunk is probably 2" in diameter and it has lots of buds.
It looks like at least half of the roots had been snapped off. Some of the roots where thick as my finger. I put a stake by it and tied it up.
I'm wondering if it has a chance to keep growing with that many roots missing, or if I should cut it way back and just make it in to cuttings.

I'd give it a try! sorry to hear the storm was that bad.

I hope it will be alright :(

Put root stimulator on it and don't let it dry out. It might actually make it without cutting it back. I put a large trunk piece (broke off during a storm)in water and it kept blooming and rooted. I later planted it in the ground. It came back fine this year. If it wilts dramatically though, you might want to cut it back. Just my humble opinion, cause I hate to loose anything that's blooming!

city?? lol sticks, AR(Zone 7a)

perhaps you could do both----try keeping the roots moist and take a cutting or two up high as a back up and to relieve some of the pressure on the plant by lessening some of the foliage its root system is trying to support? just my uneducated opinion?----I pout for you by the way---what a shame, epsecially with blooms on the way.... cheryl

So far it is still looking good but it was overcast and we got some more rain today. I will go out right now and cut a bunch of the big leaves off it, that sounds like a good idea.
I think I will wait to cut anything else until it looks like it has to be done.

Gingerlily, what kind of root stimulator? I have never used it.

It already had opened it's first flower, and I really liked it. It lasted for a whole week, and that is a long time in the heat we have here. The photo is what it looked like on the 4th day.

Thanks for the suggestions
Kris

So sorry to hear that Kris, aren't you just sick of these storms? I think my Brugs might like a little more sunshine!
Everything growin slowly for me ):

I use Shultz liquid root stimulator. It's easy to use(just mix with water and water in) and won't burn the roots.

Paxton, FL(Zone 8a)

Yeah, I've used Shultz and probably some other brand too. DH and I became a believer in that stuff when we moved a seven sisters rose that was in a bad place after we did some building and wasn't looking too good (had been there 15-20 years). That thing didn't look like it had a root on it, just a knot down deep in the ground. We planted it anyway and I put some root stimulator on it and only pruned it lightly. That rose put out new growth that has just amazed us. Looks like a totally different plant now.

Just gotta love these helpful DG folks!

How's it looking, Kris?

Ellabell, GA(Zone 8a)

Vi, it's strange, but the plant looks just fine. It has less leaves, but I cut them off. It has dropped 3 buds, but opened 2 flowers and there must be about 20 buds still on it.
It's still overcast with a bit of rain so it's cooler than normal. I'll get the root stimulator tomorrow. Maybe it will sail right through the whole ordeal.

We haven't actually had that many storms here, but I found out that this one had a tornado in it. It hit just a few miles from here. I guess I got lucky with only one plant down.

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

It will probably be just fine. They are pretty tough plants. Mother nature just did an early root pruning on it. :)

Goody! So now with those "cut off pieces", remember October 18, LOL!
