Bracelet-Honey-myrtle flowers in my garden in Victoria, Australia, December 1993
I'm trying to ID a tree or shrub that I think - judging from your picture - is Melaleuca armillaris. Unfortunately I don't have a picture to send you for comparison because the one I'm trying to ID is in a neighbour's garden and I don't know the people who live there. Do you have a picture of the entire tree/shrub? Is it more or less upright with generally rounded form, but semi-see-through (owing to delicacy of foliage)? Do branches sway slightly in breeze, rather than being rigid?
Thanks for posting your 1993 photo, and for any further help you can provide.

Melaleuca armillaris does fit fairly well to your description. I didn't have a picture of an entire shrub, but I just went out in my garden and photographed one. It is not in flower at the moment. I attach the picture of the shrub. I also took a photograph of the distinctive seed capsules that are common and are held on the shrub for years (often only releasing seed after a fire). I will add that picture to another reply and will also add a picture I took of a few of the leaves. I hope they help.

Hi Kennedy
Thanks for the additional pictures! I will stroll past the neighbours' place tomorrow and see if I can confirm this ID. (My only other hunch was Callistemon pallida but I don't think it's that.)

Hi Kennedy, I'm now 99% sure that 'my' shrub and yours are the same. Many thanks again for all your help! Cixi
