Butterfly in the Evening

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

I promise I did not use a filter and the white balance is set to normal though the light was getting low enough to make the yellow light come on the camera. I have never seen Butterfly be this dark but this is as close to its color right now as I could get with the camera.

Angleton, TX(Zone 9a)

Look at that color . . it is absolutely stunning. If it were in my yard, I would find it hard to take my eyes off of it. It must be the perfect weather conditions for Butterfly to bloom in.

Milo, IA(Zone 5a)

Now that is truly scrumptous, completely gorgeous.

Ewing, KY(Zone 6a)

Wow (thinking do I have that one) lol

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

All of my pinks are so dark they look like they will bleed pink. But Creamsickle(supposed to be peachy) is taking it's sweet time to color up, usually about the third or fourth day.

Grass Lake, MI(Zone 5a)

That is absolutely gorgeous Susie.

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

Wow, what a beauty! The color is so, so, so...DEEP! I can't come up with a better word to describe it.

Butterfly, huh? Another one I'm gonna have to do an internet search for. There is no cure for me I don't think. I've done gone over the edge.

Edited because I can't spell, TWICE! I think I'm tired and my fingers are sore from all the dirt digging.

When the climate conditions suits them, its like Calalily said: it seems they are bleeding pink. Its fascinating!

Medford, NJ(Zone 6b)

She sure is a knockout! What does the foliage look like on this one? I have two plants that came to me as Butterfly, one has serated leaves, the other doesn't.

Mukwonago, WI(Zone 5a)

Cala.... Are you using any soil conditioners to augment/change the Ph in order to get that depth of color? Whatver you are doing...has produced about the prettiest Brug pic I have ever seen. I was so fortunate to receive a Bfly plant from that dear lady in NH...thanks Snow !!! NOW all I have to do is pray. (LOL)
Beautiful shot Cala. Thanks for sharing the pic with us.

Oh Susie! That one IS awesome! I think that is one of the darkest flowers I have seen from the US. Woooo Hoooo! You sure are doing something right.

FSH, TX

Cala you have the nack when it comes to pictures and growing the best brugs. Thanks again for showing us this show stopper.

Ruby, the only thing I use on them is Osmocote(and that overdose of watersoluble fertilize the other day). Our soilless mix has a pH of around 5.5-6.0 and our water is 7.5 with a calcium carbonate hardness of 300ppm, which is high. I don't use liquid iron, but do switch to acid based fertilize in the summer with sulfuric, nitric or phosphoric acid in the water to soften it.(do NOT do this at home if you don't know how, we have an injector system that we use)

Susie, that is absolutely beautiful.

Grass Lake, MI(Zone 5a)

Had to come take another look . . . just gorgeous!

Heaven ; ), Denmark(Zone 7b)

Stunning! I ad ammonium-phosphate to soften the water here ... I have still not gained control over the proper dosage, but still good enough to avoid iron and other PH-induced deficiencies. I have buds in 1/4 of the Brugs now, but there is still a bit time go pass to they will flower, so I can finetune the fertilizers ... in the meantime its fashinating to see the intense color you had on yours :)

Brugvalley, Germany(Zone 7b)

Cala, you did a good yob:)

Hope you will have a Rothkirch. It will show great blooms to you.
To find the right hand( feeling) for fertilizing brugs is not easy.(sometimes..)

city?? lol sticks, AR(Zone 7a)

fantabulous

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Tonny, that's how the phosphoric acid works....it reacts with anhydrous ammonia to produce ammonium phosphate and lowers the pH.

Now I can see why I should have stayed away during high school chemistry. :( I guess Mama was right after all.
