A little touch of orange on the way out

Hattiesburg, MS(Zone 8a)

Creamsickle has a ting of orange but the flower will be gone before any amount of orange appears.

Doesn't that one smell great?

Hattiesburg, MS(Zone 8a)

Not much fragrance. Just knock out flowers.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Looks great to me. Mine doesn't even have buds yet.

This one bloomed in the winter. Great plant. Want to use some of its hardy stock to pollinate with.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Just beautiful!!! So I am too lazy to look this one up, is it a US creation?

Barbara, that is another stunner. Your gardens must be breathtakingly awesome!!!

As I understand it Kell, it was hybridized by Native Habitat Ethnobotanicals in Northern Florida, find them here http://www.nativehabitat.com/ Doug

Kell--it is creamsickle. Sorry, didn't mean for it to be a guessing game.

Pebble, most of my good brugs are in pots which I winter in greenhouse/hoop-house. I only plant the more hardy varieties in ground. Even in our zone 8, have lost several weaker varieties in the winter.

Barb, I wonder if temperature and humidity has an affect on this one. Mine was in a cool GH and now is planted outside. Night temps in the 40's and daytime in the 60's to 70. The flowers last longer and are more solidly colored when it is cool.
When the first flowers came out it was in the GH and we had over a week of warm sunny weather which made my GH very warm. Those flowers lasted only a couple of days and were more of a mottled orange color.Comparing the pictures though, yours doesn't look that much lighter than mine.

Don't worry Barb, I knew it was a Creamsickle, I just was hoping it was created in the US! Thanks Doug for that link.

I can't believe NH is still not taking any orders. They must be so backordered. They still have not put any more pictures of their brugs on their site. There are some on their list I have never heard of and would just love to see. Anyone know what is going on with them? I was thinking they must be a very small operation.

Snow, what impresses me about CS is how it holds up under heat and humidity. Mine are lasting at least 5 days. That is why I want to use it for breeding with some of the thinner walled brugs. Would love to know the parents so I could breed it back.

Five days is great Barb. The longest lasting flower on mine was 6 days.I am also impressed with the size of the flower.I also would love to know the parentage as it would be a plus in knowing what to cross it to.

I believe NHE received seeds from HHG which creamsickle came from, not positive.
Barb, i like creamsickle but have left it in a pot where it gets very little direct sun.
last summer i was disgusted with it, i don't know if getting wet makes the flowers last a shorter time, but i'd have dozens of nasty looking blooms on it at a time, they sure didn't last 5 days for me. probably hot sun for too long and sprinkling every day, wetting the flowers. it is a beauty.
