Problems with small black ants. Not sure why - but of three brugs in this part of the garden, they're devouring one of them. Can someone recommend anything?
Ants chewing up one brug - leaving other two alone
Check for aphids or some other type of insect. The ants will 'farm' certain insects for food. It appears the ants are eating the plant, but they are actually taking care of the bad bugs.
Hi - it's planted in ground - not a pot. I'll check for other critters. Just seems strange that one plant is being demolished and everything else seems ok.
very strange indeed but like datdog said, I'd look for aphids for sure as ants usually don't really attack plants like that. Let us know
Or maybe slugs are coming up at night when you are not looking and eating it! I have these little slugs this year that are feasting. I missed them for a couple of weeks and could not figure out what was doing all the damage.
slimey lil*&%$#@ monsters----for some reason they have attacked my morning glories n they look like lace-----more holes then surface :(
put some copper wire around your pot or some copper pennies around the base of the plant and the slugs should stay away
will do - didn't see any other critters on the plants - no aphids, etc. I'll go ahead and place pennies and continue to watch for other critters.
Critters seem to prefere some Brugs over others. I have seen sanguineas eaten half away over night by butterfly catapillars, but the Brugs next to them left untouched. That is worth noting, what Brugs that don`t appeal to them to breed for "insect-resistant" Brugs *lol*
My Luffa operculata (luffa ball) seedling was planted last night & already had chunks taken out of it this morning!
I'll try the pennies, too! Are pennies still made out of copper? My mom suggested beer to attract the slugs away from the plants.
