As you may know, my MIL moved into her new apartment in our basement yesterday. So did her little dachshund, who barks incessantly. A friend loaned us a bark collar, one which issues a "mild correction" when it feels the vibration of a dog barking.
Howie got a battery for the collar today and we slipped it on Emma to see if we had it set up right.
It was horrible!
We'd had our misgivings about these collars, and after seeing our precious Emma bark, then cry out in pain, then cry out again as her cries activated the collar again, I was bawling and Howie felt terrible. It was just horrible!
She trembled and had a racing heart for a good 15 minutes after this.
We wish we'd never, ever put this thing on her. It was too horrible for words. I was bawling for 20 minutes afterwards, I felt so bad for inflicting that pain on her. She didn't know what was happening, and she was terrified.
We wish we'd gotten one of the collars which spritzes citronella when the dog barks - but we acted in ignorance and didn't think it would be so painful. It was just awful. :( We would never put another animal through this, ever.
