@ Went out this morning and now there is only ONE bud left on the herrenhauser G. and that is after I placed it in the hoop-house with plastic on top but open on sides. Also put a fan to make sure air moves.#&$&*#&!!!!!!! I think I will super glue the last one!!!! If I get mad enough it will go in the compost and then it will probably bloom!!!
Then there was one
Barbara I had heard they are terrible at dropping buds. i hope it will bloom for you.
Same thing happened to me during two flushes last year. Not a single bud stayed on. This is the last summer. No blooms....no plant!!
This is such a disappointment! I had high hopes of seeing this bloom against Barb's famous black backgrounds! I remember the first time I saw a HG bloom which was on the Le Bon Jardinier website. I just had to have it.
Well, if an expert like Barb can't keep the bud on, I never will be able to!
I just got one in the mail not too long ago from Poppysue and will hope that it'll bloom and keep them on.......lol
Barbara, that happened to me, too, only mine was not as big as yours. Gloria has had buds that big lsst year, but they fell off too.
Any of you folks have any ideas as to why a brug drops its buds--to hot,to cold, to wet, etc???? I know with tomatoes when it reaches a certain temp. it will not set flower buds. These buds were 3 inches long. Help??? PH level--can that cause a problem. Ok, Calalily--help,you know that below ground stuff and inside the plant stuff. What is the problem? Don't you love my technical language. LOL
Barb, if she tells you it is from the bug doo in the rain do not believe her!
Kell, if you don't belive there is bug doo in the rain, you should have seen my windshield when I got home after driving 500 miles in pouring rain!!!
Barb, a sudden change in temps or light will cause buds to drop as will being too dry. Sometimes mine will get a bit dry and the buds will fall a day or two later. When I worked for a greenhouse that grew massive amounts of Christmas Cactus we sprayed the plants with STS to keep the buds from dropping during shipment. Phosphorous is what plants need to flower(as well as other micronutrients). I will have to do some research and also call my professor friend to see what he says about the buds falling.
ok here is a long shot but! we all were talking about epsom salts in the other forum(i think garden talk) how it helps set fruit and how all those minerials are so good. maybe it would like some epsom salts?
John, did you think about maybe opening the end of the calyx just a touch and letting any moisture out?
Will there be pollen on it yet? It doesn't really look plump enough to be close to mature yet.
I hate it for both of you, :(
Is there a way to get the almost ripe anthers to mature when removed from the corolla? Can this be done?
Since they are going to fall off anyway, and since Brugs are related to tomatoes, and that whole family tends to drop buds because of a lack of calcium. I think I would try to spray the developing buds with "Yield Booster, Stop Blossom end Rot".
It works great on tomatoes, maybe on brugs too.
I know it won't hurt to try.
Barbara, I hope you can find the solution to this problem, I hate to see all your hard work and efforts drop like flies.
Painted-the buds on mine were not damaged or discolored. They looked perfect, except they were laying on the ground.
I didn't think your buds looked bad. The tomato buds don't either but they sometimes fall off. The spray seems to help the buds stay on tomatoes. I don't have a HG, but if I did, I would try it just for the heck of it.
Sounds like worth a try Paintedlady! Of course I have no HG buds sadly to try it on!
